It's been a big summer for the Nations. We've added some stellar talent to Leafs Nation, Canucks Army and Flames Nation. We had five writers at the draft and managed to debut Flames Nation radio. Oilers Nation radio has grown in audience with each iteration. And the return of the Jets allowed us to add the newest member site to the network.

OMG OMG OMG OMG. Ryan Smyth is on NationRadio this week. Robin Brownlee hosts for the second week in a row and quite honestly we could kiss him for getting this to happen*
Cam Barker is on the show too - and you may recall he now plays with a Mr. Ryan Smyth. David Staples from the Edmonton Journal stops by too, ostensibly to discuss Ryan Smyth. Finally Ben Kuzma from the Vancouver Provence swings through. Perhaps he has some information regarding Ryan Smyth?
This is NationRadio. Enjoy!

Where--exactly--does Nikolai Khabibulin stand with the Edmonton Oilers? The answer could have an enormous impact on the Oilers 11-12 season. Tom Renney has already told us.

The Edmonton Oilers’ record in one-goal games last season was 9-10-12; put another way they won nine and lost 22 of the games they played that were decided by just one goal.
This statistic has been cited by various figures with the team at various points of last season and over the summer as a reason for optimism – after all, if the Oilers lost that many close games, it follows that if they compete a little harder in those contests they could significantly improve their record, doesn’t it?

Injuries at the NHL level can have tremendous impact on the team. In 2009-10, the Oilers’ fall to last place in the NHL was blamed in part on injuries to Ales Hemsky and Nikolai Khabibulin. In the comments section here, various parties pointed to those injuries and asked how a team like the Penguins would do without Sidney Crosby and Marc-Andre Fleury (one hears that less often these days, for multiple obvious reasons).
Were the Oilers been particularly unlucky when it came to injuries in 2010-11?
