Twenty three years ago today Oiler fans and the hockey world was stunned when the Edmonton Oilers traded Wayne Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings along with Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski for $15 million in cash, Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas and first rounders in 1989, 1991 and 1993. The Oilers traded the '89 pick to the Devils, but they selected Martin Rucinsky in 1991 and Nick Stajduhar in 1993.
It was a dark day in Oilersnation.

The Edmonton Rush have made a blockbuster deal. They've traded the best all-around player in the league, Brodie Merrill along with lefty Dean Hill, righty Mike Mclellan a 5th rounder in 2011 and a 4th rounder in 2013 to the Philadelphia Wings for Athan Iannucci (set NLL record holder for most goals in a season, 71), young lefty Alex Turner, goalie Brodie McDonald and first round picks in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Guns N' Roses released their first album, Appetite for Destruction, on July 21, 1987. It contained one of the greatest dressing room/warm up songs you've ever heard, Welcome To The Jungle. Since 1988, many teams have psyched themselves up listening to Axl and the Boys, but one player actually used the "Jungle" as a springboard to an NHL career.

The Edmonton Oilers and 630 CHED have completed the ink on a new three-year deal that will see the station remain as rightsholder. Included in the package, the debut of Oilers NOW, a renamed version of the "Oilers Lunch" franchise from TEAM 1260, hosted by Bob Stauffer.
