The day Boston drafted Milan Lucic, it was not obvious to all the Bruins had selected a future impact forward. He had size--6.02, 204 according to Central Scouting--but he wasn't at the top of the scoring charts (9 goals all season) and his PIMS (149) suggested long stretches in the sin bin for feeling shame. We’ve had occasion this season to talk about a lot of the Oilers’ prospects in Oklahoma City. At times, it felt like three-quarters of the NHL squad was made up of call-ups from the AHL team. Players like Linus Omark, Teemu Hartikainen and Jeff Petry made lasting impressions, while others like Alex Giroux, Ryan O’Marra and Chris Vande Velde got more limited cameos.
One of the players who has been mostly ignored in this shuffle is Colin McDonald, a long-time Oilers farmhand who this year lead the American Hockey League in goal-scoring.

In a draft cluster that features Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle, it's easy for an enforcer like Cameron Abney to get lost in the shuffle. A meandering season filled with injury and growing pains didn't help, but a strong showing in the playoffs probably saved Abney's status as an Oiler prospect. Can Abney help the Edmonton Oilers?

One big positive about the possibility of the Phoenix Coyotes returning to Winnipeg is that Edmonton would no longer be perceived by players as the second-least desirable destination in the NHL, which it now is.
