Chiarelli to Oilers.. Update...Move moves

Peter Chiarelli has been in Edmonton for the past few days talking with Bob Nicholson, and a source told me it looks like the Oilers will announce Chiarelli is joining the organization, possibly as early as tomorrow.

What does this mean for the existing management group?

According to Jason Gregor the Edmonton Oilers will be holding a press conference as early as tomorrow to announce the hiring of Peter Chiarelli. At this point, his title is not yet known but he will surely add a new voice in the Oilers management team.

Any competent NHL general manager needs to make decisions with an eye on the short-, mid- and long-term. For the Edmonton Oilers, part of that means making rough plans now for next summer’s free agents. This is something that has started already – the David Perron trade saw the Oilers move a significant player prior to his rental season – and needs to continue as the team draws up its game-plan for this summer.

Darnell Nurse and his Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds will battle Connor McDavid and the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League semi-finals starting tomorrow. Both teams are loaded with elite young players and first round draft picks, but Oilers fans will be paying close attention to Nurse and McDavid.
