Magnus Paajarvi is on waivers today and at least three people I know are hoping he gets claimed on waivers—two hoping it's Oilers and a third who just wants someone to claim the Swede. Why?

Nilsson does not require waivers

Anders Nilsson has been perfect thus far in the preseason. He has stopped all 53 shots he's faced; 17 vs. Calgary in half a game, 25 in a 60-minute effort vs. Minnesota and 11 last night against Arizona.

He signed a one-way contract worth $1 million earlier this summer, but he does not have to clear waivers to be sent down and that might be the reason he starts the season in Bakersfield.

There are probably not too many headlines worse than "Jordan Eberle out four to six weeks" as far as the Oilers are concerned, but you'd have to think those would involve longer lengths of time, or the names "Taylor Hall" and "Connor McDavid." Beyond that, disasters don't get much bigger.

One way or another, the list of healthy bodies in training camp is getting trimmed. Wednesday morning was a busy day on the news front for the Edmonton Oilers, as we learned both that star winger Jordan Eberle will be out of action for a significant period of time and that the team had made another round of training camp cuts.
