Devan Dubnyk is in the final season of his two-year, $3.5 million/season contract. So far this summer, there has been no word on extension talks, meaning either that the Oilers are doing a masterful job of concealing their intentions or that they aren’t entirely sure that Dubnyk will be the team’s starter a year from now.

HALL MAKES SURPRISE APPEARANCE

Before I went left to Banff for the inaugural Hockey Alberta Summit, Taylor Hall made a surprise appearance on my radio show. I was on location, and Meg Storms saw Hall roaming the halls of the TEAM 1260 studio. Hall and the pun-master Gene Principe were in the building voicing a commercial, so Storms asked/told Hall to stop in for a quick chat.

Hall obliged/listened and we had an impromptu chat. It was the first time I've had a guest in studio, while I was out on location.

It's tough to see everything that's going to happen in a hockey season while sitting on a deck drinking the Nation brew during August, and God knows I haven't been in tune with Craig MacTavish this summer.

That all changes now. If you simply cannot wait to see what's going to happen with your Edmonton Oilers this winter, click through and read. However, if you read this and then the season seems anticlimactic because you found out in August, don't blame me! You've been warned!!!

Toni Rajala: No Good Solution

Toni Rajala’s departure from the Oilers’ organization yesterday didn’t quite come out of left field, given the rumours circulating beforehand that he was interested in going back to Europe, but all the same it was a significant blow to a prospect system almost entirely lacking good forwards at the minor league level.
