The Oilers woke up in Smashville (Nashville) this morning, but they probably felt like they were there last night. The Stars punished the Oilers physically last night, and the Oilers were unable to handle it. The biggest farce in the NHL is the inconsistency from building-to-building regarding hits. Whoever was tracking them last night gave the Stars 47 hits and the Oilers 33. That is ridiculous.

ROAD TRIP: CHICAGO and GREEN BAY

 Last week we departed on the first Gregor Show/Nation Road Trip, and it turned out to be an excellent sports and entertainment trek.. Twenty-four of us flew to Chicago, with four hitching a ride to Green bay, where we spent four days touring Chicago, checking out Wrigley Field, the United Centre, excellent restaurants and bars, too much shopping, awesome tours, great sight-seeing trips and the legendary Lambeau Field.

Going into the offseason I thought it was pretty unlikely that I would receive a contract offer in the NHL.

Almost Saturday Night

Ladsilav Smid has been maturing as an NHL defenseman in full view of NHL audiences for over 5 years now. We know young people don't develop in a straight line--ask any parent--and we also know that playing defense in the NHL is a very tough discipline. When you make a mistake, it's in the net and you're exposed on the highlight reel. So, congratulations to Laddy Smid for climbing Everest. Here's hoping you have some company soon.

SHELDON SOURAY: NOT DONE YET

Healthy and happy again, Sheldon Souray resisted the urge to dish any dirt when reporters gathered around this morning looking for some juicy quotes about his unhappy time with the Edmonton Oilers. Souray took the high road, and it looked good on him.
