We have heard about "the process" since last May, and if the Oilers can muster a victory in Denver this afternoon then they can safely say they did improve this season. A win would give the Oilers 63 points, a measly one point better than last year's 30th place team, but improvement is a progress right? Right?

It has been years--decades--since the Edmonton Oilers enjoyed a rookie crop like the 2010 kids. Offense is their calling card, but they're not one dimensional, and the forwards are backed up by a quality defensive prospect and a goaltender who could end up being the starter for years to come.

There's not much question Devan Dubnyk took immense strides toward proving himself capable of being an NHL starter with the Edmonton Oilers this season. Is he all the way there yet? No. Does he warrant a longer look? Absolutely.

When Edmonton Oiler fans talk about adding "grit" or "crust" these days, it's almost exclusively in regard to the skill lines. The club has all kinds of role players who can crash and bang but as the JF Jacques experiment a year ago showed us, "hands" are a vital part of the package. It's early, but it looks like the Oilers may have uncovered a gem deep in the heart of Stu (Magnificent Bastard) MacGregor's first draft as scouting director.
