The Oilers are 19-8-5 (actual ties) in home openers including a perfect 3-0 v. the San Jose Sharks. They beat the Sharks 3-2 in a shootout in 2008, 3-2 in 1993 and 5-2 in 2003, so with it being 2013 it only seems fitting they open their home schedule v. San Jose.
I know technically this is the 2012/2013 season, but their home opener is in 2013 so just go with it.

Patience, the saying goes, is a virtue in the development of NHL defensemen. Rush, and you can ruin them. We've seen it happen. Resist the rush, ease them along the learning curve and, if the kid has the game and the gumption, you get rewarded. What you get, if you're lucky, is Jeff Petry.

LAK put Anthony Stewart on waivers. VAN puts Jim Vandermeer on waivers.— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) January 21, 2013
The waiver wire includes a pair of interesting names today. In Jim Vandermeer, there’s a physical depth defenceman; in Anthony Stewart a former first-round pick with a few intriguing seasons behind him. Is either guy worth taking a flyer on?

Ales Hemsky had a great game against Vancouver on Sunday, and his best moment was the power play goal in the third period that sent the game into overtime. The goal showed Hemsky at his best, showcasing his high-end speed and shot, but it was also the product of a lot of work from the entire power play unit.

It wasn't the prettiest win, but the young Oilers deserve a lot of credit for battling back from a 2-0 deficit to win their season opener 3-2 in a shoot out.
