The frustration is mounting in Oilersnation. The Oilers have won 8 of their past 26 games and once again they find themselves closer to the basement than a spot in the playoffs.

For the first 40 minutes last night the Oilers didn't play with the smarts, energy or passion you'd expect for a team fighting to stay in the playoffs. They were good in the 3rd period, but this team isn't good enough to play one solid period and win. 

The bigger question is what is ailing the Oilers?

Daniil Zharkov's Progress

On Sunday I drove out to Mississauga to cover game three of the first round playoff series between the Ontario Hockey League's Mississauga Steelheads and the Belleville Bulls. As you probably well know, Oilers prospect Daniil Zharkov plays for the Belleville Bulls and I chatted with him post game. I figured I'd share some of my game notes and some of Zharkov's post game comments with you, or at least with those of you willing to read my work after I took that massive run at your sacred cows a couple of months back.

The single-worst play by an Oiler this year?

The last time the Oilers played Nashville, it was Sergei Kostitsyn making an awful play on a goal in a 3-2 Oilers win. On Monday night, Kostitsyn was excellent, so it was Mark Fistric’s turn to cede a gorgeous scoring chance (and ultimately a game-winning goal) to the other team in a 3-2 game with a stunningly bad sequence.
