I mentioned this awhile back and last night was an excellent example: as time rolls on, Taylor Hall is going to take care of Taylor Hall.

GDB 50.0: KINGS LACKING PUNCH

The Kings, and their awesome purple and yellow retro jerseys, roll into Rexall Place tonight for their 2nd of ten straight road games. The Kings lost 1-0 in a SO last night in Minnesota, and this road trip will make or break their season. The Kings are sitting in a disappointing 11th place in the tight western conference, two points back of 7th and 8th place Chicago and San Jose.

Tonight is a big game for the Kings, but I wonder if it might be a showcase game for Dustin Penner and Ales Hemsky in front of Dean Lombardi, who must be feeling the heat to get his Kings into the playoffs. I'm not sold that trading either Hemsky or Penner is a smart move, but if the return is Brayden Schenn then I would listen.

We've heard some quiet rumblings that Lombardi might deviate from his usual strategy of being patient and developing kids, and MIGHT considering moving a prospect like Schenn for a proven top-six forward. I stress might, because I'm still more of a doubting Thomas when it comes to Lombardi straying from his usual process, but if the Kings continue to struggle scoring he might have no choice.

The Gods Must be Crazy (Trade Deadline Primer #2)

I had a trade deadline post ready to go tonight, but Zack Stortini was part of it. Oh well. I'll include him in anyway, as there's a chance he'll be in the organization come the deadline. When it comes to this deadline, the Oilers are extremely likely to do the same thing they did a year ago: flush blue.

I can't say I take any joy whatsoever in the news the Edmonton Oilers waived farewell to Zack Stortini today, but we saw that coming after his embarrassing fight with Krys Barch of the Dallas Stars, didn't we?

DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE: EDITION X

I wonder if Tom Renney will be using a similar image to figure out his plan for the final 33 games. The Oilers are out of the playoff hunt, but look for them to try a few different looks and don't expect them to be a doormat the remainder of the way.

"There are some things we want to change, there is also some things we are going to implement that we believe will do us good in the long run as an organization. We are going to keep things simple, and we aren't going to try and reinvent the wheel. We are going to make sure on two things: Going into next year that we have a solid foundation on how we want to play, and that there is enough diversity to that where we can extract different tactics as required," said Renney.

"We want to continue to grow people and put them in a position where they can do that, and find out even more about themselves at this level. We can certainly be very disruptive in the western conference. We want to win and we want our record to be as good as we can possibly get it. Part of our mantra will be to go out, play hard and try to make a mess of things out here (in the west)."

I sense that Renney's comments will excite and possibly irritate some fans.
