The Oilers are winless in four NW division games thus far, and tonight they will try to change that against the current three-time NW division champion, Vancouver Canucks. If the Oilers have any hope of making the playoffs they need to start beating teams within their division.

Whether you are for a new arena or opposed to it, tomorrow you will have your chance to voice your opinion. We are damn lucky we live in a country that allows us to speak our mind, so I suggest you make a trip to city hall or email Councillors@edmonton.ca and let them know where you stand.

D-DAY FOR THE ARENA

So it seems that there is an all day session of City Council tomorrow for the final public consultation and debate their involvement in the proposed downtown arena.

If we were a betting man (we are) we would think that this deal will move forward after tomorrow’s session (it will) but that there will be the small matter of a multi-million dollar funding gap will need to be addressed (it does.)

We'd also bet the majority of those who will ultimately end up picking up a large portion of the tab will remain on the sidelines content to let "others handle their bizness for them."

Oilers’ Underlying Numbers Show Major Improvements

We are now seven games into the Edmonton Oilers’ 2011-12 season. It’s obviously still very early – early enough for Milan Michalek to be a top-five scorer, Marc-Andre Bergeron to be leading all blue-liners in points, and for players like Nikolai Khabibulin (0.969 SV%) and Dan Ellis (0.966 SV%) to be in the running for the Vezina.

Given the short schedule each team has played, it’s difficult to read much into the Oilers’ record and overall totals. Yet, in the past, the underlying numbers have offered us a more accurate reading of where the team is really headed – and this year, they’re almost uniformly positive.
