The Chicago Blackhawks haven’t won the Stanley Cup in 49 years. Since they last hoisted the “toughest trophy in sports to win” they’ve lost in the Finals five times: 1962, 1965, 1971, 1973 and 1992. They made the playoffs 28 consecutive years from 1970 to 1997, so it’s not like they were awful, but hockey’s holy grail hasn’t come close to the Windy City for a long time.

Edmonton Oilers chief scout Stu MacGregor came out and said it Tuesday night -- the Oilers will take Windsor Spitfires star and two-time Memorial Cup winner and MVP Taylor Hall first. Then, they'll take Tyler Seguin.

We were sitting down to read a newspaper we found on the ground when we came upon this story, about Edmonton Oiler Gilbert Brule donating $10,000 towards the facial reconstruction surgery of little Maddox Flynn, who has a rare condition called cystic hygroma, a rare malformation of the lymphatic system that causes fluid-filled lesions to develop during infancy.

Do the Oilers really need a legitimate tough guy? It wouldn’t hurt, but from where I sit it a tough guy won’t make them that much better. I love fighting, and I hope it is always a part of the game, but having the toughest guy in the league only helps you if he can play more than five minutes a night.
