The Edmonton Oilers allowed 30.7 shots against per game last season, 19th most in the NHL, however, they only fired 26.7 shots per game at opposing goalies, good for 29th in the league. The Oilers were -4 in shots for/against ratio, and only Minnesota was worse at -4.9.

Many expect the Oilers to better offensively with the additions of Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz, but solid goaltending will be the biggest necessity f they intend to compete for a playoff spot.

And that pressure falls on the shoulders of Devan Dubnyk.

When the NHL finally gets going, most likely on the 19th of January, you might see a small subtle difference in Taylor Hall's game. I chatted with the 2010 first overall pick before he played his final two games in OKC, and I found out that he worked hard on improving one specific skill set and that he'd love the opportunity to kill penalties.

MAGIC HOODIES FOR SALE

So a few weeks back we had 10 hoodies made up for Christmas presents for folks. And these same folks started freaking out as they had long heard whisperings that NationGear existed but considered it a myth like a Pat Quinn coaching strategy session or a Dustin Penner situp. These new hoodie owners said "you have to start selling these."

And that got us thinking, we should start selling these.

I went out on a limb (critics will say I sawed it off) by suggesting a shortened season would benefit the Edmonton Oilers two weeks ago and went as far as to say my gut-feeling was that they'd have enough gas in a sprint rather than a marathon to make the playoffs for the first time in six seasons.
