On Tuesday we named the 2013-14 Goat and all hell broke loose in the comments as people debated who should wear the horns for the coming year. There were plenty of candidates thrown about including your ol’ pal Wanye himself as we are correctly called out as a “try hard.”

Then the Nation voted Ryan Jones official Goat of the year prompting the Oilers to immediately place him on waivers. Yikes.

COULD BE A RED OCTOBER

The Oilers final roster hasn't been made official, but with Ryan Jones clearing waivers and Denis Grebeshkov, Corey Potter, Sam Gagner and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins all injured it is obvious who will be on the team. The only change could come in the form of a waiver wire pickup over the weekend when teams make their final cuts.

If a viable centre is available, general manager Craig MacTavish will need to decide if this player is better than Marc Arcobello or Will Acton.

Even if they claim a centre on the waiver wire, the Oilers will start the season with some key injuries and a very difficult schedule. They could find themselves in the "red" very early.

As someone that looks back and feels that I may have been rushed in my development into the NHL, I think the Oilers returning Darnell Nurse to the Sault Ste Marie Greyounds is a good move for both the player and the team. Of course all players are different, but I see no downside in this move at all.

NURSE TO JUNIOR, EAKINS HATES SITTING BACK

Darnell Nurse definitely made an impression in his first NHL camp. His infectious smile and polite demeanor allowed him to fit in off the ice, but it was his on-ice play that impressed his teammates the most. None of the Oilers had ever seen him play before, but his fluid skating stride grabbed their attention the first day of camp.
