WHAT IS THE HOLD UP?

As Oiler fans patiently wait to see which direction their beloved hockey team is going in, I wonder why the delay in announcing plans for the management and coaches? All the arrows are pointing to Steve Tambellini staying on as GM. He represented the Oilers at the draft lottery, he flew to Sweden to chat with Oscar Klefbom, he stopped in and watched the Under-18 Championships and he was in OKC earlier this week watching the Barons dispatch of the Houston Aeros in four games, but still no official announcement of a contract extension.

How come?

Minnesota Wild goaltender Josh Harding earned $750,000 in 2011-12 as the backup to Niklas Backstrom. He’s an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Oilers should give serious thought to bringing him aboard in time for next season.

Ken Holland became the general manager of the Detroit Red Wings in the summer of 1997. Thirteen Stanley Cups have been awarded since then; his Red Wings have more than anyone else with three. He’s managed to keep a team that was old when he inherited it competitive.

He’s also managed – despite picks being either low or traded away – to keep restocking his team.

Team Canada Takes Shape – And Looks Pretty Good, Too

With the additions of Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp, this year’s Canadian entry at the World Championships is shaping up to be one of the strongest we’ve seen recently. Given how Canada has fared the last few years at the Worlds, that’s a very good thing.
