Despite their best performance in a week, the Oilers couldn't hold on to a 3-0 lead and lost to Phoenix on Friday. Tonight they face a Ducks team that has lost four in a row, two in OT, so one losing streak will come to an end. The Ducks won all four meetings last season and outscored the Oilers 20-9.

I shudder to think what the Edmonton Oilers defence would look like without Ryan Whitney. Then again, the Anaheim Ducks would have an uglier back end than Terry Jones trundling up the press box stairs without Lubomir Visnovsky.

Some goals are easier than others. For NHL scouts, delivering multiple players of exceptional quality from one draft is something that may come along once or twice in a career. It's way too early to even be discussing it, but the Edmonton Oilers 2010 draft group keeps doing things to get noticed. It really has been an exceptional start to the season for the top 5 selections. Stand back, we don't know how big this thing is going to get in the next 5 years.

Back in the summer I wrote several posts about reasonable expectations. I think they're valuable because the brain can play tricks on us in mid-season. We see a kid like Jordan Eberle adjust quickly, play miles beyond his years and less than 20 games later we adopt that level of ability as the norm and forget all about the progress. "Reasonable expectations" re-boots the brain and gives us a nice starting point to the season.

Tom Renney pulled a few interesting tricks out of his coaching trunk yesterday during practice at Millenium Place. He isn't desperate, yet, but clearly he was looking to find a way to stop the
bleeding, hemorrhaging. The Oilers have lost five straight and have been outscored 30-8 in that span. Yesterday Renney tried to instill some FUN back into his team.
