The Oilers’ season will once again end at the same time as the NHL playoffs begin. Edmonton plays its final game tonight against the “Vancouver Canucks” – with third place locked up, the Northwest Division champs will rest a bunch of players against the Oilers, underlining the fact that this game is almost entirely meaningless.

Each of them has a unique skill set and something that ignites the fanbase: Yak City is pure joy; Taylor Hall is all business; Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is cerebral and a wonder in all three segments of the ice. Which one will be better? Do we know already?

The Oilers are in something of an interesting position tonight. If they win, they can put a serious crimp in the Minnesota Wild’s playoff ambitions, playing the role of late-season spoiler. However, they can only do so by damaging their draft position.

We will take a quick minute to give everyone an update on the OilersNation drive to donate $200,000 to charity annually and chirp Jason Gregor for being a crusty old man. Beats reading about how the other 29 teams in the NHL made the playoffs but our beloved Oilers didn't.

One of the toughest players to don an Oiler uniform, Mike Grier combined aggressive play, forechecking and some skill to deliver effective play for the Edmonton Oilers of the late 1990's and early 2000's. He was a member of what might the most effective checking trio in club history, and man could he play through pain.
