Last Sunday we boarded an "aeroplane" and headed off to nerd summer camp in San Francisco. And because we basically use the Nations as a diary and because Kent hasn't figured out how to override our author clearance on the site you are about to hear all about it.

Come on it's summertime - you gotta read about something right? Right.

Jason Strudwick made his NHL debut March 30, 1996. He hit the scoreboard in a big way--a hockey stick!--as the refs flagged him for his first 7 minutes of NHL pims. His final game came April 10, 2011--21 clean shifts in his 674th game in the world's best league. It was, by any measure, a helluva run.

THOUGHTS ON DUBNYK, PETRY AND GAGNER

Jeff Petry and Devan Dubnyk received two-year contracts yesterday moments before the NHL announced that Sam Gagner was one of 16 players who filed for arbitration. Much of the early reaction from fans and the media was that Petry was a great signing, while Dubnyk got overpaid. I agree Petry's deal was good, but I'm not sold that Dubnyk was that bad of a contract.

In the post lockout-era, Edmonton has been quite good at avoiding arbitration. They often sign their player before the hearing begins, but have been known to trade the player before the hearing too.
