This year the Party Planning Department at OilersNation (me) and the geniuses at Pint Downtown (hot chicks for the most part) elected not to have our 4th annual NHL entry draft party. The Oilers mercifully didn't finish last, meaning they didn't pick first. Plus the NHL moved it from Friday (fun times) to Sunday at noon (dead times.)

But never fear - we are going to throw one hell of a Draft Party this Friday at the Pint Downtown. Draft party as in the official release of NationBeer.

You read that right. What was once merely a blog is now also a beer.

The Edmonton Oilers aren't done with roster moves, they have a few holes to fill before September 15th when Craig MacTavish hands off to Dallas Eakins for the fall and winter. A summer full off addition and subtraction leaves the roster with 2 goaltenders, 8 defensemen, 12 forwards and an unsigned Gagner. The roster holes are pronounced and significant, and if we're talking playoffs in 2013-14 they must be addressed.

Free Agent Possibilities: Fourth Line Centre

It’s been nearly a week now since unrestricted free agency opened, and the best players on the market have already signed contracts with their new teams. For a team in need of depth NHL’ers, however, there remain options.

The Oilers are arguably such a team, and the good news is that there are still players available to fill the fourth line or spare centre slot.

For the first time in several years, the Edmonton Oilers first round selection does not boast breathtaking boxcar numbers. Darnell Nurse is a defenseman with a wide range of skills, a 'two-way' type, a 'complete player' in scouting terms. He projects as a fearsome defender who can intimidate and run over the opposition--Oiler fans recognize that kind of talent--they've seen it for years from the opposition. Nurse also offers an underrated offensive side. In this area, he is an emerging talent.
