2010: TRAINING CAMP DAY ONE...MEDICALS

Day one of training camp isn’t very exciting. The media stands around slugging coffee, eating muffins,debating the reasoning behind the training camp lines and wondering how a station can report Pat Burns has passed away, only to recant the report due to erroneous information. ***I'm not making light of Burns' health, rather how incredibly insensitive we've become as a society that people race to be the first to report someone has passed away. It's disgusting in my view.***

The Edmonton Oilers have not yet released their training camp roster. Steve Tambellini told the media that 64 men will be in camp. The list is about the same as last years (63), very young, full of tall trees (especially on the blue) and flush with boys from the Western league. This is a list you might want to pay close attention to--many of these kids are going to be around for a long, long time.

The Oilers wrapped up their rookie tournament with a 4-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks, and now we will turn our focus to main camp and see if any of the rookies can make an impact.

HALL AT CENTRE: WHY NOT TAKE A LONG LOOK?

If the Edmonton Oilers are thinking of taking a look at Taylor Hall as a centre, and my take is they absolutely should, there's no harm in having him see a stretch at pivot as soon as possible.

Healthy Plante Important

In the first period of tonight's Young Stars game against San Jose's rookies, Alex Plante fell at the end of a fight and hit the back of his head. It is exactly the kind of thing the Oilers (and Plante) badly needed to avoid.
