*We encourage everyone to drink responsibly.*
Friday is one of the best days of week. The work week is over, you look forward to a few days off and you've usually got something planned. Most of you will watch tonight's game in Nashville despite how frustrated you were watching last night's game in Detroit.
That's what Oiler fans do. You're a veteran when it comes to dealing with hockey disappointment. You loathe the feeling, yet you still show up and watch the next game. Despite this seemingly endless cycle of losing, you still find the strength and courage to watch your beloved Oilers.

For most Oiler fans, the first time they heard the name "Martin Gelinas" was a moment of high stress: our brains stopped working at "Wayne Gretzky has been traded" and we couldn't grasp anything else due to the ringing in our ears, the bile in our throat, and the building rage.

The Oilers skate into Detroit hoping to match the effort they played with last Thursday in Dallas. Over the last 18 years the Stars owned the Oilers, but the Oilers dominated them last week, and tonight they face a Wings team they've only beaten 24 times in their last 73 meetings.
Can they slay the dragon for the second Thursday in a row?

The Chicago Blackhawks are off to the greatest start in NHL history, 21-0-3, and they are less than three years removed from winning the Stanley Cup, yet many Oilers fans, bloggers and pundits have suggested the Oilers should mirror the Hawks success.
Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't see that happening, at least not right away, if ever.

While it's up to debate exactly how long the Edmonton Oilers have been in a full-on rebuild and it makes for interesting speculation what the 2012-13 edition of the Oilers might become, there's no question the team fans see here and now has been built by Kevin Lowe and Steve Tambellini.
