This will be an open blog for the draft, and it will be updated with thoughts from Gregor, Willis, Brownlee and Lowetide as well as your thoughts in the comment sections.

After months of speculation and hype the 2013 draft is finally here. For the past two months, fans and media been debating what would be the first "Bold" move made by Craig MacTavish. I suspect today we will finally be able to discuss and debate a MacTavish trade, and one man who will be heavily involved in the trade discussion will be head scout Stu MacGregor.

Asked to turn around a franchise buried deep in the second division for a generation, Craig MacTavish looks to make bold steps on his first draft day. Oilers Nation--tired of losing and watching the brilliant youth acclimate to it--awaits the turnaround. Based on yesterday's rumors, this is one of the few days in organization history where "expect the unexpected" doesn't quite cover it.

From the sound of things, Edmonton Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish is quite the juggler – negotiating with Sam Gagner, trying to land players at all three positions, trying to move on Shawn Horcoff and Ales Hemsky, and bringing a sense of energy to the draft that picking first overall simply could not.
It also seems he isn’t worried about swinging for the fences, either – and that’s a very good thing.

Every year, it’s the same thing. This defenceman is the next Chris Pronger or Shea Weber, this forward the next Steve Yzerman or Ryan Getzlaf. Guys who realistically project as third liners get written up as top-line players.
It’s important to step back, and remember that whatever is getting written about these players, the end result is likely to be far more prosaic in most cases.
