That 5-0 laugher against the Phoenix Coyotes Tuesday wasn't Exciting Last Place Hockey. It was a group of entitled, pampered athletes getting their backsides kicked and turning the other cheek without the slightest hint of objection.

Tom Renney has seen some horrendous performances this season, and he has remained rather calm throughout the first 19 games, but tonight's performance in Phoenix finally pushed him over the edge. I'm amazed his patience lasted this long.

John Candy played Barf in the 1987 sci-fi parody, Spaceballs. It was a strange parody on Star Trek, Aliens and the Star Wars trilogy. It didn't do very well at the box office, but became somewhat of a cult classic afterwards. Barf and his captain Lone Starr ended up saving the day of course, but while this was a unique character for Candy it was the prelude to Candy's best characters: Del Griffith in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Chet Ripley in The Great Outdoors and Buck Russell in Uncle Buck. What does Barf have to do with the Oilers, you ask? Stick with me.

Magnus Paajarvi is basking in the warmth of Arizona with the rest of the Edmonton Oilers, but the big Swede's hands might as well be back here, where the deep freeze has busloads of brass monkeys heading south as fast as they can get out of town.
