Our first win of the season was a shoot-out goal by Ales Hemsky... seemingly appropriate for this young team (remember when we could ONLY win at shootout). And that last shot that won us the game wasn't a pretty one, either.

The Oilers will be without their captain and possibly one of their assistants as they look for their first win of the season, against the 0-0-1 Dallas Stars.

We suppose you can’t judge a book by its cover, except in this case you can. The Oilers closed out an otherwise fairly inspired season opener the other night with a five alarm asstastic final act.

Mistakes happen, so it's senseless to get overwrought about Nikolai Khabibulin's all-thumbs bungling on the winning goal by David Moss in the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames at Rexall Place Saturday.

Joanne Ireland’s column this morning focuses on the Oilers’ new motto: “Anything”. Given that I think mottos help players about as much as mission statements help my commitment to my day job, I brushed past that bit and got interested when the column started talking about effort level.
