What kind of game have Dallas Eakins’ Toronto Marlies played in the AHL?

With Dallas Eakins widely expected to be named as the Oilers’ new head coach today, his work in the AHL is of obvious interest to Oilers fans. What kind of style did they play? What were they good at? What could have been improved on?

I don't expect it'll take long for the Edmonton Oilers to unveil Dallas Eakins as the replacement for Ralph Krueger as head coach – it's a formality that could be dispensed with as early as Monday -- and I'm guessing we won’t have to wait long to get a glimpse of the coaching staff Eakins settles on.

Ten years ago, on a cold dark night, the Edmonton Oilers chose poorly in a deep, deep draft. It has cost them for a decade, as other teams gathered one, two even three important parts of their foundation while the Oilers watched their picks fade away.

There are some saying the 2013 entry draft is the strongest since 2003. A repeat of the performance of one decade ago must be avoided at all costs.

There were a couple of interesting items for Oilers fans during the second intermission of CBC’s broadcast of game five between the Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings. First, Glenn Healy reported that Rick Bowness – a candidate to work as an associate coach to Ralph Krueger – declined a job offer, while Elliotte Friedman provided some information on a possible Shawn Horcoff trade.
