There are things about Edmonton you can only tell by living here. There's old money here you'll never find by looking for signs of extravagance, there's a tremendous sense of charity that can be overwhelming if you're in need of it, and there's a pride and entrepreneurial spirit that likely comes from isolation and independence. And hockey fans like their defensemen tough, edgy and with a max effort. Little wonder Steve Staios flourished in the Capital.

If GM Craig MacTavish makes good on the suggestion he's looking to move Shawn Horcoff and Ales Hemsky, Ryan Smyth, assuming he's still around when next season begins, will be the lone player remaining from the playoff run that took the Edmonton Oilers to Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup final.

On Thursday, Edmonton Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish left little room for doubt as to the fate of veteran Oilers Ales Hemsky and Shawn Horcoff. After hinting for most of the summer that the two would be moved, he told Team 1260’s Mark Spector that the “ideal scenario would be to move them on and wish them the best."

We’ve spent significant time on Ales Hemsky’s trade value here, but what kind of scenario would allow Shawn Horcoff to be moved?
