This Saturday the Oilers will be in Detroit to take on the Red Wings. The game starts at 2:00 PM Detroit time which is noon here in Edmonton. The Wings are not the team they were a few years ago, age even catches up with legends. With players like Lidstrom, Yzerman and Hull no longer flying around the ice at Joe Louis arena, visiting teams now have a better chance to get a victory but for the Oilers there is still an issue to deal with this trip: afternoon game!

Craig Simpson's arrival in Edmonton signaled the beginning of the end for the original "Boys On the Bus." Oiler fans had grown fond of Gretzky and Kurri, Messier and Anderson, Coffey and Huddy, Fuhr and Moog. The Coffey trade was a tough item to overcome--for Oilers Nation and for Craig Simpson. It worked out wonderfully for both.

If Sam Gagner scored 40 points for the Edmonton Oilers this season, and he might despite playing just a 48-game schedule, somebody would be sure to sniff: "See, Sam still hasn’t even managed 50 points in an NHL season. He's not that good."

Coaches usually are graded on wins and losses. If you win, you're considered a good coach, if you lose more than you win, eventually you get fired. Of course there are other intangibles, but winning at the NHL level is the most important factor. With a young team like the Oilers, Krueger doesn't need to win right away, but he will need to make decisions and evaluations that will lead to more wins in the future.
His first good test will be how he handles Ryan Whitney.

So an overtime loss and the Oilers falling to 4-3-3 through 10 games has led to people calling for massive changes, hate lazers focused squarely on Ryan Whitney, the precious Nuge taking flack and even some pockets of Eberle hate does it?
