Lots of stuff after the jump: looking at a top draft candidate that the Oilers organization has spent little time on publicly, the performance of some of the prospects in the minor league system, Mark Messier’s name being floated as a potential head coach in New York, and a bunch of other stuff.

There's been a positive vibe around the hiring of Craig MacTavish as new GM of the Edmonton Oilers and that continued today when former Oiler assistant coach Rob Daum offered his two cents.

Craig MacTavish has a 'to-do' list that would challenge mortals, but his media conferences suggest he's going to get a lot done this summer. We've talked draft, and buyouts and trades, but the truth is that job 1 is getting Sam Gagner's situation straighted out.

We've heard the phrase, "It doesn't matter how you win, as long as you win," for years. It makes sense in pro sports, where it is your job to win, but if you win by playing boring, non-creative hockey is it still worth it?
If you ask fans of the LA Kings they will surely say they love Kings' hockey, and it is easy to see why since they've won six straight playoff series. However, I find myself turning off the TV and tuning out of their games on a nightly basis this year.

Goaltender Antti Raanta is coming off a phenomenal season. In 2012-13 he posted the best save percentage in Finland’s top league and won the awards for best goaltender and regular season MVP (he’s pictured accepting that award above), as well as playoff MVP after back-stopping Assat to the league championship. Just for good measure, he was named one of Finland’s top players after taking the starting job for the club at the World Championships.
Unsurprisingly, multiple NHL teams are interested in the player, and the Edmonton Oilers are likely one of them.
