For OKC coach Todd Nelson, this season must seem like a series of stanza's, influenced heavily by the players flying in and out of town. It looks like the coach may finally have his horses.

The Oilers aren't Stanley Cup contenders yet, but if they want to be a playoff contender this afternoon is a game they need to win. The Oilers have to beat the teams below them in the standings, or ones they will be battling with for the final few playoff berths, and Colorado is one of those teams.
Their powerplay dismantled the Avalanche Monday night in Edmonton, going 4-for-6, and after picking up three of a possible four points in Phoenix and San Jose, the Oilers have an excellent opportunity to make this a very successful road trip today.
This is a game they should win.

Thursday night’s game against San Jose was thoroughly enjoyable – both teams played very well, there were numerous chances (and solid goaltending) at both ends, and for Oilers fans the fact that their team was able to force a shootout on the second night of back-to-back games against a very good Sharks team was an exceptional outcome.
The shift I have chosen to highlight was not a key one in the game – in fact, it did not even result in a scoring chance for either side – but I do think it’s one reflective of the effort the Oilers put in.

Craig MacTavish played the game the way he coached the game: intelligently. MacT was not the scorer his Oiler linemates were, and he did not possess great size or a passing gear, but he took the talents God gave him and made himself into a very valuable player.

Martin Gernat is back and for Oil Kings and Oilers fans that is very good news. Gernat is still in the developmental stage of his career, so a long layoff can impact him a great deal. The 6.05, 191 defender has a lot of potential and is finally getting game action with the Oil Kings. How does he look?
