We have had a hell of a past few seasons as fans of the Edmonton Oilers haven’t we? Anyone remember the heart pounding Cup run of 2006? Anyone remember the heart destroying summer of 2006?
Anyone still remember the five – count em – five years since as we all found entertaining ways to cover for the Oil as they bumbled, fumbled and dumb-dumbled their way to back to back lasts?
Let’s take a look back at the eras of Oilers since that wonderous day the Oilers lost in SCFG7 and made us cry for the first time since Grade 6.

So, will the Edmonton Oilers snap a five-year drought and make the playoffs again? Or, is it more likely that, coming off back-to-back 30th-place finishes, they'll be a lottery team for a third straight year?

All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes.
That particular line comes from Winston Churchill, but variants of it are commonplace. Albert Einstein regarded mistakes as a necessary consequence of trying new things; James Joyce saw them as “portals of discovery.” It’s a point of view I agree with entirely: mistakes are inevitable, the trick is to learn from them.

If you thought the off-season was long, then this week might kill most Oiler fans. The Oilers don't open their season until Sunday, they will be the last team to play a regular season game, with the Jets opening their season a few hours earlier.
The only positive is that it gives Ryan Whitney more time to get healthy. Whitney was on the ice this morning wearing a regular jersey and he was paired with Tom Gilbert. He didn't wince when he pivoted, which is the motion that causes him the most discomfort, but I won't know until after practice if he thinks he might be ready for Sunday.

The Edmonton Oilers have announced the demotion of five players on their official website: Gilbert Brule, Josh Green, Teemu Hartikainen, Ryan O'Marra and Ryan Keller. Brule, Green, O'Marra and Keller will need to clear waivers before being assigned to Oklahoma City.
