The Oilers did their year-end interviews today, and there’s a lot of interesting stuff to wade through – I imagine both Robin Brownlee and Jason Gregor will have a bunch of material up based on them. There were bits and pieces to pick out of pretty much all the interviews, but I thought some of Shawn Horcoff’s thoughts deserved special attention because he takes a big-picture view that isn’t overly common for NHL players.

It’s too soon and the wounds are just too fresh to do a post mortem on the Oilers 2011-12 season just yet. But there is some unfinished business with regards to couple of certain someones in the running for a couple of certain NHL trophies.

If the Oilers do indeed end up with the second overall pick at this year’s draft, and want to land defenseman Ryan Murray, they may be well-advised not to trade down. The NHL’s Central Scouting Service released their final list this morning, and it came with a bit of a surprise: Ryan Murray has leapfrogged Mikhail Grigorenko into the second overall position.

The season is over. Next up for Leafs, Jets, Flames and Oilers fans is the draft lottery. There’s been a lot of griping over the last month of the season about how the way the NHL draft is set up encourages teams to “tank” that is, to purposely try to lose games. I am not sure that tanking is actually a thing, however. In this blog, I will look at whether teams are really tanking, and if so, how to fix it so there are more meaningful games down the stretch. Tomorrow the Oiler player will each have a final meeting with the coaching staff, pack their bags and then head their separate ways after another disappointing season. For some it will be their final time inside the Oiler dressing room as an Oiler, but who won't be returning?
