NHL replacement players? Forget about it!

I have always been a big fan of Abba. Love the music, the beat and even the dancing they did in concert. However, unlike Wanye after a break up, I never cried myself to sleep listening to 'One of Us'. Doesn't mean I didn't feel the passion!

I would love to see them live in concert. It would be awesome. Reports out of Sweden say they were offered a billion dollars to get back together. They turned it down, no chance of a reunion tour. Brutal! So what is the next best thing?

Replacements! Same music, clothes, beat and dancing, but still just replacements. It just wouldn't be the same. The quality just wouldn't be there.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was the league’s worst face-off man last season, and it wasn’t particularly close. Of the league’s 120 most-used centers, Nugent-Hopkins was ranked 120th, with a 37.5 percent success rate (the only player on the list that lost more than 60 percent of his draws).

Is he always going to be a bad faceoff man, or is there hope for improvement?

OKC training camp is underway and the Barons have a lot of natural talent down on the farm. However, there's always room for one more. If Taylor Hall does play in OKC this season? Holy hell it's a minor league murderer's row.

Who didn't secretly root for Shane Falco in the football comedy, The Replacements? It wasn't the greatest football movie, but it wasn't awful.

Falco's speech in the huddle was epic. "I wish I could say something classy and inspirational, but that just wouldn't be our style.... Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory...lasts forever."

Another classic came from butter-handed receiver Clifford Franklin, "The football's like a one-man cold to Clifford Franklin. Clifford Franklin's the only man catchin' it, Clifford Franklin's the only man comin' down wid it" What an awesome line.

Some have questioned if the NHL would look at bringing in replacement players. Would it be smart or stupid? I can't speak for the all fans or season ticket holders. It would be wrong for me to assume if you'd pay, so instead I will ask.

Would you watch replacement players?

Annual article extolling the virtues of Patrick Thoresen

With the NHL locked out, the mantle of “world’s best hockey league” falls to the 26-team Kontinental Hockey League. That league’s second leading scorer is one-time Edmonton Oilers forward Patrick Thoresen.

Which makes it time for my annual piece wondering why he isn’t in the NHL.
