Fans and media alike are always wanting to know about "The Plan" for the Oilers. Does the team have a plan? What is The Plan? Why won't Steve Tambellini tell us The Plan? There is a strong feeling that it is a right of theirs to know the answers to these questions.

The Stanley Cup Finals start on Wednesday, and usually The Count, Gary Bettman, doesn't like other teams to make any announcements during the Finals, so unless the Oilers hold a press conference tomorrow, unlikely, you will have to wait until after the Kings raise the Cup to find out who will become the 11th man to coach your beloved Oilers.

Just over a week ago we announced a contest to design a new NHLNumbers logo. And aside from those designers who castigated us for soliciting spec work or something, the response was fairly positive. We received a number of excellent entries which we have been poring over with serious minds and profound thoughts.
It's too difficult a decision for us, I think, so we'd like reader impressions as well. We'll forgo the easily skew-able web poll in favor of yays or nays in the comments. Share your thoughts and we'll pick the winner from the finalists by the end of the day.

The question about drafting the best player available versus selecting based on organizational need isn't a tough one. The way I see it, there is no greater "organizational need" than drafting the best player available, especially when a team holds the first overall pick, as the Edmonton Oilers do.

2011-12 was the best season in Alex Plante's short pro hockey career. A strong season in OKC, an appearance in the AHL All-Star game, a cup of coffee in the NHL and a much brighter career outlook--even with the concussion worries.
