Another sign of the apocalypse: famed sportswriter Robin Brownlee joins the OilersNation

Just when you think that no one reads your website but your parents. Just when you think that maybe a website about cutting your cat’s hair might be just as fun. Just when you think that the OilersNation couldn’t get any more slam-bam-thank-you-ma’am awesome. Out of the blue a big deal writer contacts you and wants to get involved…

We couldn’t be more excited to welcome a new addition to the OilersNation team – award winning sportswriter Robin Brownlee. Now we know what you are thinking, lambs. Are we intimidated by a guy who won the 1985 and 1987 MacMillan Bloedel Award for editorial and column writing? Are we scared to go against the 1997 Associated Press Award winner for enterprise reporting, the 2001 Ron Collister Award for the Sun Media sportswriter of the year and 2003-04 Professional Hockey Writers Association runner-up award for best hockey news story?

Hells no.

Robin Brownlee can come up in here with his “facts” and his “typewriter” and his “press pass.” We’re sure that he has a lot of things he wants to tell the OilersNation that may be way cooler than what we have to say, but we aren’t scared. We don’t need any of that award-winning stuff. We write from down *here* in the ballular region. We write from the heart not the mind, we write from the soul not the brain.

His access to MacT can’t beat our imaginary interviews that we conduct in our head. The fact he can probably call up Wayne Gretzky himself and ask for a quote can’t compare to the fact that we mail Wayne Gretzky 15 letters a month begging him to come out of retirement and rejoin the Oilers.

So a warm round of applause as we welcome Mr. Brownlee to the team. You can also check him out on the radiola every Thursday from 4 to 5 pm on Total Sports with Bob Stauffer on Team 1260.
