Sure it is! There is going to be an Oilers race car at the Indy this weekend:
Racer Graham Rahal will have the Edmonton Oilers petrol-drop logo on his No. 06 Dallara/Honda/Firestone car for Saturday’s Rexall Edmonton Indy. His Newman/Haas/Lanigan team and pharmacy giant Rexall announced Tuesday that Rexall has signed on as title sponsor for Saturday’s race at the City Centre Airport.
“We’re looking forward to seeing an Indy car sporting the Oilers’ copper and blue on the track, hopefully taking the checkered flag first,” Daryl Katz, Rexall chairman and sole owner of the Oilers, said in a news release. Financial terms were not disclosed.
We are attending the races, and shall cheer for the Oiler car on principle. We shall yell at it to “shooooooooot” and will laugh when MacT tries to get into the pit to tell it to play solid two way racing and look for an outlet pass.
Then we shall shake our head sadly when Rich Winter signs on to be the car’s agent, and suddenly the wife of the car claims she doesn’t want to live in Canada. Then we will cheer as the car wins the race, decides it loves it here and settles down with Mrs. Car and is often bothered while eating at local Keg Restaurants.
But good Oiler that it is, it takes it all in stride.
