Hey Alberta… Hop On In…

501a19gpjepgsvkhntfz08sdd2mtcanucks_bandwagon

Well for the first time since 1994 the Vancouver Canucks are Canada’s last hope to bring a Stanley Cup back to the homeland. Now that the Flames have crashed and burned, Alberta is stuck in quite a quagmire. Cheer for the Canucks? But they hate the Canucks. As a Canucks fan to my brethren in Alberta, I openly invite you to join in on the party. There is no shame in jumping on the bandwagon, hell the bandwagon is already filled with posers and wannabes from Vancouver.

When the Flames defeated us in the first round in 2004, it took a series before we warmed up, but by the Conference Finals, the Flames had our official endorsement. We watched you guys all the way to game seven. We have to admit that the loss did not hit us nearly as hard.

We were quick to follow the Oilers in 2006, mainly because the Canucks, in traditional fashion, choked and did not make the playoffs. We don’t have the same aggression towards the Oilers as we do the Flames. This is because we traditionally have never done you any favors at the end of the season when trying to clinch. Yes we feel guilty. Much like highlanders, only one of us can make it to the post-season.

The message I am trying to convey is that you do not have to sit around and ponder what will happen next season, you can continue cheering on the Canucks while they are still in the playoffs. Don’t worry, the smell will wash off immediately following the playoffs.

Give us your support. You be Scott Neidermayer, we’ll be Rob. Hitch your post to us and help us get a taste of the glory.

I would have invited Eastern Canada, but they have never heard of these so called Canucks. They didn’t even know there was a Western Conference.

"…….the Flames had our official endorsement. We watched you guys all the way to game seven."

When you're talking about the Flames, please don't refer to us as "you guys". This isn't Flames Nation.

My son's been a Canucks fan since the age of four (no amount of Oilers brainwashing and torture have been effective). Needless to say life is hell for me right now listening to a 13 year spout off about the Canucks superiority over my Oilers. So I'm taping up my ankles and jumping on the Tim Thomas/Bruins bandwagon.

I should probably know this, Brian, but what position did you play?

That is without a doubt my biggest pet peeve when it comes to sports fans – when they refer to themselves as part of the team. You are not part of the team and have very, very little, if any, impact on what happens on the ice/field/pitch. You don't own the team, don't play a position on the ice/field/pitch, and don't make any managerial decisions.

    Stop it!

I would rather shave my head with a cheese grator that cheer for the Canuckleheads. Chicago all the way Baby!!

The swedish scientist who Grew the Sedins in a Petri dish should have thrown in a few more "Jam" genes.

    Dear Canucks Army Writer,

I am an Oilers fan, and therefore I am unable to cheer for the Canucks. It belittles me, and the only bandwagon I will be jumping on, is the one which runs Oiler players and future head coaches out of town. I will not tell you about my ABCs. Seeing as my beloved Oilers are not in the dance, and enjoying some golf, I practice my ABCs… Anyone But Calgary worked succesfully, and Jarome Iginla can now be seen galavanting in his giant St. Albert home. It worked beautifully.

I now ammend my ABCs acronym to read, Anyone But (the) Canucks. I will cheer loudly from my living room as Jonathan Toews, and Patrick "don't call me minor" Kane make Willie Mitchell and Sammy Salo look like pylons. Just as I will cheer loudly for the end of Roberto Luongo's contract, and inevitable move back to a non-hockey market with his wife and kids only to have Mike Gillis resign Dan Cloutier and hand him the starting job.

I thank you for taking this into consideration. I will not waiver, nor will I faulter. I have one team, and when the Canucks are knocked out, I really don't care who wins the Cup.

    Cheers and happy hunting,

    -baggedmilk

    WAAAAAAANYEE!!!!!!!

Who is this Brian O Neil and why is he posting on my Oilers Nation????! You keep bringing flames and nucks writers on here and these psychological damages you are inflicting will be imposed upon your head TEN FOLD!!

  • I'm a Scientist!

    @ alphah:

The Oil are nothing without rivals. That's what the Canucks and Flames are for! You don't like Brian's invitation to support the 'Nucks? Chirp him! That's one of the reasons Wanye and I created the Nation sites — to get fans talking and making fun of each other using the power of the internets.

As much as it pains me to say this, I expect the Canucks to move on to the Conference finals as the Blackhawks are an upgraded St. Louis team (which Vancouver handled quite easily). However, from there the Canucks will either be outclassed [by Detroit] or out-muscled [by Anaheim]. In terms of cheering for the Canucks, they like to extend their choke job every decade or so to the Stanley Cup finals and I find no reason to expect otherwise this season. Also, I find it hard to respect an organization that has been in the NHL for close to 40 years, yet has less Stanley Cup's than Tampa Bay…

  • I'm a Scientist!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

    No. Just No.

No self respecting Oilers fan will support you. The Canucks are #3 on the hate pole: Flames, Leafs, Canucks.

The Cansucks aren't getting out of the conference. Noway, no how, The Hawks are for real unlike the Blues and their worn out goalie and players playing way over their heads just to make it.

    Hawks in 6.

    Uh, What?

I thought this is supposed to be our little corner of the universe. We can rant and rave about how douchey the Canucks and the Flames all day long and that doesn't bother me, but why in the name of God do we have to invite them over for tea? Invite them to create news postings, spew their propaghanda and so forth all over our backyard. If this is truly our Oilers nation, then what place do the other teams have on here? If you're trying to run another Kukla's corner or Mirtle's blog then fine and dandy go ahead and invite bloggers from all over the universe. But SEE, I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THIS WAS THE -OILERS- NATION. NOT THE CANUCKS-FLAMES-OILERS TEA ROOM FOR PUBLIC DISCOURSE.

If that is the case, I can return to where I came from on HF boards where we ban canucks and flames trolls instead of inviting them to post exclusive news posts. Where is the Oilers content again? Buried under the Nucks shame? 2 days old and collecting dust while the Nucks writers rub their Swedish testicles in our face? Thanks Wanye AND Baggedmilk, always wonder what that would feel like. My guess is you two are already plenty familiar.

  • I'm a Scientist!

Heeeeeeeeeeelllllll NO!!! I would never cheer on those talentless hacks!! I hate that team more than jewish people hate Hitler!! I hope Chicago pounds the living sh-t out of them. One of my good friends is a Canuck fan and I cant even talk to him now because i just want to punch him form all the smack he talking. Eff them all!!

Are you kidding me? St Louis was a .500 hockey team until they went on a 8-1-1 tear to finish the year. Not only that, but had the Oilers not had a "collapse of monumental proportions" the Blues would not have even made the playoffs. Give the Hawks some respect man.

If the oilers had squeezed in, wouldn't that have pushed the Ducks out?

Also – looking back now, how great would that have been to have the Oilers play the lifeless Sharks in the first round?

  • I'm a Scientist!

I am officially cheering for the Hawks now, because if they win the cup that means they will have knocked out Calgary and Vancouver!

Don't get me wrong, I'll cheer for the Canadian team in the playoffs…so long as it isn't the Flames, Canucks or Leafs.

Except if you're reading the same post on FlamesNation. Seriously folks – can we get some way to visually identify posts that have been cross-posted to both sites? It's disconcerting.

    @ Brad:

Disconcerting? Really? You find it unsettling?

Seems a bit alarmist, but fair enough it's a good idea. We'll get the OilersNation Interwebs Sciencentitians™ working on it. Thanks Brad!

I am a diehard oilers fan…living in vancouver. In fact, I go to school with hundreds of canuck "fan" dumbasses. Most of who, all think that their team has won at least cup… havent they..? Never in a million years would i be any where close to a Canucks bandwagon.
I do like running over the stupid little canuck flags all over the place.

  • I'm a Scientist!

Yeah same boat as Rider out here except a Flames fan. I live in Victoria and the there is no way I am jumping on board with all the dumb ass Canuck fans I have to deal with on a regular basis. Lets go Hawks
