THE BIG PICTURE: OILERS NEED MORE DUBNYK

Given their track record of developing goaltenders, I’m wondering if the Edmonton Oilers are going to finally get it right for the rest of this season where it regards handling Devan Dubnyk. I’m not hopeful.

AROUND THE LEAGUE: WEEK ELEVEN

Do you remember the wickedly awesome video game for Intellivision, Slap Shot: Super Pro Hockey? If not, the pic above illustrates the kick-ass graphics, and the advanced thinking of why the NHL should go to a 3-on-3 format before the shootout.

Looking To Next Summer

It’s still early, but a few Oilers players with expiring contracts this summer are already giving us a good indication of how the organization might deal with them when the season comes to a close.

Another Rookie?

This is Wally Pipp. Legend has it that (while the Yankees starting first baseman) he asked out of a ballgame due to a headache. Although there is evidence that the real story had more to do with a batting slump, the headache story sounds better so most go with it. Replacing Pipp in the Yankee…

Improvement

One of the things I’m looking for from the Oilers this season is gradual improvement.  I wrote the team off as a playoff contender before the season began based on the roster, but that doesn’t mean I was without optimism; the Oilers have an extremely young roster and I viewed this as a development year….

Once in a very Blue Moon

Sometimes things appear to good to be true. However, every once in awhile you come across something so beautiful, so powerful, so impressive, you know in that instant this is special. Oilers fans were blessed with such an event 30+ years ago; what will it take for it to happen again?

Rama Lama fa fa fa

History can teach us many things. Never get involved in a land war in Asia. Don’t cheat on any woman, and get it in writing. WHAT THE HELL? NO ARTICLES?

What in the sweet holy hell is going on here today? Jordan Eberle scores two goals and the Oilers smoke the Blue Jackets and not a single writer at the Nation thinks it merits an article? How many people write here again? Fine. You want something done right you have to do it yourself we…

Nikolai Khabibulin, MVP

With four strong performances in five December outings, and no true stinkers so far this month, the ‘Nikolai Khabibulin as MVP’ brigade is back out on the Oilers official website. An article from Oilers digital media assistant Ryan Dittrick currently graces the club’s front page, casually ascribing all of Khabibulin’s early season struggles to the…
