JUST ASKING: I DON’T HAVE THE ANSWERS

Having made a decent living for 28 years by asking questions, many of them less-than-brilliant, I’ve got a whole bunch of them rattling around my oversized cranium regarding the Edmonton Oilers in the wake of that hideous 4-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs Tuesday.

Sleepless Night UPDATED

Early tomorrow morning, the final cuts for Team Canada’s world junior team will get a phonecall. The merciful coaching staff make the cuts early so the kids can hit the airport and (hopefully) avoid the media. Two Edmonton Oiler prospects played tonight (against a team of CIS All-Stars) and will be watching late night television, counting…

GDB 30.0: PUSHING FOR THE PLAYOFFS?

In 2007 the Houston Dynamo of the MLS made the playoffs, and were looking for their 2nd consecutive championship and had this highly motivating slogan of; DREAM. SCREAM. BELIEVE. It clearly worked as the Dynamo won their second straight title.

DEEP THOUGHTS XXII: LOSING SUCKS

There’s been a lot of lively debate about the right way for the Edmonton Oilers to go about pulling off a proper rebuild, and the opinions are as diverse as the people you talk to — except when it comes to the players.

SRSLY WTF: III

Look at this dude. A fine crop of squash, a fit looking cat and a high powered rifle. Clearly this is a man who is dangerous at all times, unlike our beloved Oilers who have managed a grand sum of 2 shots during the past two 3rd periods of ice hockey.

Pitlick Break Out

This is Tyler Pitlick. After a slow start to his WHL season, the young American forward is heating up. He ranks third in points among WHL rookies and is one of the reasons Medicine Hat is one of the hottest clubs in the eastern conference.

Hot off a shootout win against the Tampa Bay Lightning and a controversial goal by Linus Omark, the Oilers play the Vancouver Canucks this fine evening at Rexall Place.

14 More Sleeps!

There was a time in this fair land when the World Juniors did not run. The annual post-Christmas tournament is in Buffalo this year and Oiler fans will be rewarded once again with prospects present and future.

LINUS OMARK: THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT

You can be young and be an old fart. There were plenty of them in the Tampa Bay Lightning dressing room after Linus Omark made the transition from YouTube sensation to NHL sensation with his spectacular shootout goal to give the Edmonton Oilers a 4-3 win Friday.

Omark Opus

Jordan Eberle scored a sick shootout goal, just wicked. And you know what? Few will remember it. Why? Linus Omark brought out his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the crowd went wild.

GDB 28.0: STAMKOS THE SNIPER RETURNS

On February 24th, 2009 Steven Stamkos played his first NHL game at Rexall Place. That night he scored his 11th goal of the season, had four shots, won eight of 12 faceoffs and played 17:17. When we left Rexall that night, little did we know that was the begining of Stamkos’ coming out party. He went…

WILL A LEADER EMERGE?

"Adversity doesn’t build character, it reveals it." I don’t know who to credit with that old saying, but I’ve always believed it to be true. I’m wondering, in that context, what will be revealed about the Edmonton Oilers in the next month, a stretch that will see them play nine or 10 games without injured…
