Massive props to Danjo1 for finding a copy of the Ghost Ride the Whip video on youtube. The celebrations continue long into the night after this one

This is what a champion looks like! Who was that Oilers squadron? Full of fight, full of zip and full of victory. We have PVR’d these past two games and will watch them once per day during this long offseason to remind ourselves what the team might look like in the not so distant future.

Serving the Canucks back to back helpings of loser stew might not be sufficient to make up for this 2010-11 Oilers Season but it certainly helps soothe the tattered nerves of the OilersNation.

  • Ryan Jones continues to look like an absolute beast, potting his 18th goal of the season.
  • Devan Dubnyk has played a whale of a pair of games, turning aside 66 of the 67 shots sent his way during the two games against Vancouver. And a shoutout? At home? Well played Sir. A tip of the cap in your direction.
  • Jordan Eberle shook off a wicked elbow from Raffi Torres that might have ended the evening of a mere mortal. Here is to Torres being shown the door for a few games for his troubles.

We’re sure others have more pertinent things to add, so we will turn the floor over to the masses of jubilant crowds gathering in the streets who have put down their guns of rage and are now firing their guns of joy.

Suck on that bitter popsicle of defeat Vancouver- served icy cold by the Edmonton Oilers.

Good luck in the playoffs.

And as for the Flames? See you very, very soon.

  • Where was Torres with a devastating concussion hit like that during the 06 playoffs? What’s that? He did? Oh. Nevermind.
Torres, you piece of work. I will fight you. I will punch you right in the kisser.

  • O.C.

Wow, I havent sworn at the TV this much in a long long long time..especially after that Torres Hit, was so pissed off that Omarra didnt get a good piece of him in that scrap..even had the hit been clean, I dont care..dont mess with the Oilers..at least thats the attitude the Oilers are starting to show…
And during that five on three I was swearing at all the Oilers for not moving the puck around enough at first..then at Omark..love the kid, but damn..your so damn patient, and I am not, and I want you to just put that puck in the net already..but what a pass he made to Paajarvi, or more like what a move he made before the pass..

Petry looked great again tonight, great hand-eye on the puck in the Defensive zone on the PK..havent had that in sometime in Edmonton..Last great Hand-eye guy on Defence we had was Pronger..bout time Oiler D get their stick on those pretty-over-fluffed Sedin tweetes(passes) to one another..
    Awesome physical presence by Peckham..

Anyone else noticing that the Oilers seem bigger with all the recent call ups..duhh, they are..but seriously, I am liking Hartakainen, Omarra and Vande Velde in the lineup..finally some size and grit..and Omark, damn..here is one guy who ACTUALLY plays bigger than he is..those words get thrown around all the time, but this Omark kid is for real..

  • Edited with love by Wanye.

Seriously, that’s the only explanation for his comments after the game.

The hit pissed me off to no extent, the comments made me want to huck a brick through his face… that’s right, through it.

P.S. I know it seems insignificant, but anyone else notice that no one bothered to knock Tambellini on his a** after getting about fifteen whacks at Dubnyks pads? In the future that won’t do.

All in all though good showing Oil! The last two games made me proud, keep it going into the future!

  • Elph, I need somebody,
    Elph, not just anybody,
Elph, you know I need someone, elph.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody’s elph in any way.
But now these days are gone, I’m not so self assured,
Now I find I’ve changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Elph me if you can, I’m feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Elph me get my feet back on the ground,
Won’t you please, please elph me?

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
My independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I’ve never done before.

Elph me if you can, I’m feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Elph me get my feet back on the ground,
Won’t you please, please elph me.

I finally saw a replay of the Torres hit. You can call it a blindside, but it wasn’t an elbow; Torres had his elbow tucked against his hip. Before I get banned let me repeat: I’m not saying it was clean.

    • O.C.

Hells yeah! The kid is a stud and I’m saying sign him now. He is so strong on his skates and just his over all game has impressed the hell out me. I think at first he was a bit overwhelmed by the physical play of NHL’ers, but he’s addapted quite well I have to say. have you guys noticed more and more D-man are starting to back away from him when he’s working his magic in the corners. PLus the chemistry between him and Magnus is so fun to watch, just imagine when Landers is centering those two!! WOOOOOOO!!

  • danjo1

Yep! that was great! It’ll be fun day here in Canuckland!!! Now, if we can dispose of the Lames….Well, it will go along way to help make it through the Summer!

  • What a moron? I guess he will have to watch the replay.

    Torres defended his actions.

“It was a fine hit,” he said. “I was finishing my hit and he had his head down. We were both going for the puck. I’ve got to finish my hits. He was obviously in a vulnerable position but at the end of the day I have to finish my hit or else I am out of a job.

“If they are trying to get rid of clean hits like that, what’s this league going to be in a couple of years?”

Going for the puck… ya right

  • danjo1

For stretches of time that looked for all the world like Team Switzerland shutting down Team Canada at the 2006 Olympics. Nice job, Ralph. “Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno”. And I can’t quite figure out if the Oilers defence played like maniacs in shutting down the leagues best offence because Gilmore wasn’t playing and they knew they had to tighten up, or because Gilmore wasn’t playing….

  • Torres attitude shows 2-5 game suspensions will not change attitude of managers ,players or coaches toward head shots ! The value of taking out an opposition player still outways the punishment especially in playoffs and going after oppositions star players . Until those attitudes are severely punished at all 3 levels simultaneously , little effectiveness will be done to limit head shots . Repeat offenders will still feel obligated to be repeat offenders despite obligatory lip service and political correctness that they say says otherwise .

A paltry 2 games for head shots should deter no one from being a repeat offender to be honest – be it player, coach or management .

  • S.Tambellini

The only catch is that ELPH does in fact require a last place finish. Given that the Avalanche’s last regulation win was Feb. 22, the Flames and the Wild are probably the last two chances to clinch #30.

  • S.Tambellini

OC …actually a gf of mine made the bet for me but she decided to add an extra twelve to my eight dollar wager and what if it didn’t pay two hundred and five and now my take is a hundy …i don’t often bet…gotta love lady luck!

…and clearly i don’t have the brainz for Mensa

Just a serious question for some of the less-street of us…

When referring to your ride, is it a “WIP” and not a “whip”?

A whip is what Indiana Jones uses to thwart Nazis.

A WIP is a “Work-In-Progress” when referring to your ride and the bad ass rims or hydraulics you are planning to put on it.

Can someone with more street cred than I (check yo-self though, I grew up in Clareview), explain?

  • Wax Man Riley

    Thank you Urban Dictionary:

When the steering wheel was first put into use in automobiles, it was called the “whip”. The whip is what you used to control the horses on a stagecoach, hence the analogy. Many years later, various hip hop artists noticed that the Mercedes-Benz logo resembled a steering wheel. They then proceeded to use the old term “whip” to describe any Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The term has now been generalized to classify any expensive automobile.

  • Wax Man Riley

… if i knew how, i’d conjure up a “tandum prop” for these two beauty comments … just for the shear goodliness of your self- indulgence…after all, who else is better equipped to answer a serious question AND gain street cred than you…yourself…nicely done WMR

  • @Wanye&Mister Brownlee(reluctantly & timidly)

…far be it from me to say anything on prancer in pink chaps with his arse hangin’ out…with all the feather boa ruffling going on here recently with some of the commentariat, what’san old straight arrow going to say if all he’s going to do is upset the resident Friends of Dorothy?

truly damned ifya do…damned ifya don’t!!!!

did you get the young mans’ name wanye?
