Wade Belak Found Dead

Ex-Flame and Leaf enforcer Wade Belak was reportedly found dead in his Toronto condo this afternoon. The 35-year old recently retired from hockey. Belak’s death marks the third tragic passing of an NHL tough guy this summer after Derek Boogaard and Rick Rypien. The cause of his death has yet to be reported, but whatever…

While fans could probably use all their fingers and toes when it comes to questions about the Edmonton Oilers as training camp approaches, I can think of at least 10 relating specifically to player personnel I don’t have the answers to.

Brett Ferguson

Yesterday, we looked at one of the undrafted players that the Oilers are going to take a closer look at – undrafted defender Wesley Vannieuwenhuizen. He isn’t the only unsigned player hoping to earn a professional contract that the Oilers have invited, though. Brett Ferguson, a teammate of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in Red Deer, is another…

Man if we didn’t know any better we would swear that the doggiest dog days of Summer are almost over. Calgary trading Langkow was headline news today for heavens sakes. But what are you supposed to talk about if there is nothing to talk about? WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO? *wipes brow and clears throat* How about another photoshop…

Tell Me Something Good

There are some outstanding futures on the Edmonton Oilers roster. If you’re young enough to enjoy the next 15 years of Oilers hockey, this fall should be the beginning of something very special.

Cam Barker vs. Kurtis Foster

Kurtis Foster was the player tabbed last season to replace Sheldon Souray’s big shot on the power play. He had a largely forgettable year – the worst offensive season of his career – and there weren’t a lot of tears shed by fans when he was sent away to Anaheim over the summer. Andy Sutton…

Lowetide is back on the m-i-c this week, rested from vacation and looking to reconquer the airwaves with his first NationRadio in three weeks. This week features Kirk Luedeke, Matt Bugg, Kent WIlson, Jeff Krushnell and a list of 10 things we can look forward to from the Oilers next season. This is NationRadio. Enjoy!

Who Got The Best Undrafted Giant?

Vancouver, Edmonton and Minnesota all have something in common – aside from the fact that they’re all in the Northwest Division. Each of those clubs has invited an unsigned, undrafted Vancouver Giant to training camp on a tryout deal.

Another Beauty On the Way

Lost among all of the excitement over the electric foursome of Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi and Linus Omark, Teemu Hartikainen established himself as an outstanding prospect in 2010-11. Hartikainen displayed a wide range of skills, posted solid AHL numbers at age 20 and impressed when called to the show. How good is he?

Choices In Net

The conventional view is that the Edmonton Oilers are stuck with their goaltending tandem of Nikolai Khabibulin and Devan Dubnyk. The Oilers can’t move the former because of his decline in performance, his heavy contract, and they can’t dump him because of the over-35 clauses in the CBA. The Oilers don’t want to move the…
