THE WAY I SEE IT

If the Oil Change folks put a soundtrack to a hockey season that’s quickly turned into a bowel movement pie in the face for fans of the Edmonton Oilers, it should be kazoos and whoopee cushions. This is something that stinks so bad, it’s funny. Low-brow stuff.

GOOD ARROWS FROM OKC (NHLE)

The Oklahoma City Barons regular season is over, and there’s a summer’s worth of interesting things to ponder. We begin by looking through the offensive numbers with Desjardins NHL equivalencies. (photos of Toni Rajala and Kristians Pelss courtesy Rob Ferguson. All rights reserved).

GDB 45.0: OILERS/DUCKS ROUND TWO

I’d love to see the NHL implement back-to-back games involving the same teams in the same city on a regular basis. You can’t do it all the time, but three or four times a year would be a welcome change. The Oilers and Ducks will faceoff again tonight after Anaheim won 3-1 last night. If…

The Nuge and the Beach

Yesterday the Oilers announced that forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been shut down for the season. He will undergo a fairly serious shoulder surgery that could take up to six months to heal. I have been saying for a couple months that there was some issue with his shoulder.  I know he took some…

GDB 44.0: LOYALTY

There was a time this year when we thought our tickets to the games tonight and tomorrow were quite the saavy investment. "It will be right at the end of the year" we cackled to ourselves as we looked at the schedule "it’s going to be a circus." Of course the Circus left town a…

GOING MOBILE

The Edmonton Oilers procurement department is delivering an interesting and diverse group of young blue to the pro ranks these days. Oscar Klefbom (in photo) leads the way for the "mobile" defensemen of the future and the club added another with footspeed yesterday in Martin Gernat. Edmonton has also invested in big, gritty defense-first defenders….

Sometimes, you get surprised

The Oklahoma City Barons are loaded with relatively high NHL draft picks, and a lot of them are bigger forwards. The 2010 trio of Tyler Pitlick, Curtis Hamilton and Ryan Martindale were all exceptional junior age players, and represented the second tier of rebuild hopefuls. Two years into the professional careers of that group, things…

Edmonton Oilers sign Martin Gernat

On Saturday, the Oilers locked up a prospect who could have re-entered the draft this year. The team announced that 2011 fifth-round draft pick Martin Gernat had agreed to a three-year entry-level contract.

ONE FOR KRUEGER

Edmonton Oilers fans have one eye on the standings and one eye on the draft lottery (where young men like Sasha Barkov–in photo–are available) as we hit the final stretch of this season. Oilers coach Ralph Krueger’s goal may be the exact opposite of the Nation. Or is it?

GDB 43.0: OILERS NEED TO SHOW UP

Pride. Heart. Determination. Guts. Dignity. Self-respect. That is what the Oilers need to demonstrate tonight. They haven’t shown any of that the past three games, and regardless of how many wins they produce in their final six games, they need to show their teammates, coaches and management that they care.
