The Edmonton Oilers love Justin Schultz. It’s obvious, made clear in all kinds of ways. The main one has to do with time on ice—Schultz has played more minutes this season than all but 50 NHL defensemen. Schultz has not delivered enough in those situations. What will the Oilers do?

The Edmonton Oilers held an optional skate at practice yesterday. Skaters participating were four fringe major league defenceman, enforcer Luke Gazdic, and injured winger Nail Yakupov. It was, as the coach admitted afterward, a pretty good indication of the health of the team. And baby, they already weren’t that strong.
