Since December 15, when Julian was promoted, the Barons have gone 16-7-2, and currently sit first in the AHL Western conference and are tied for first overall in the entire AHL. This despite the call-ups of their best 2 d-men (Klefbom, Marincin), their best scorers (Lander, Hamilton and Pakirinen) and their starting goalie (Bachman).

As bad as the mess is up here, Gerry Fleming is doing a helluva job on the farm.

      • bazmagoo

He’s almost ppg and he isn’t know for being an offensive defenseman. I find everyone is trying to find reasons why our top prospects aren’t good, last week it was Draisaitl.

        • bazmagoo

It’s a legitimate question. He was a ppg defenceman for most of last season, too. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask how high his offensive ceiling is when he doesn’t increase on that total with more experience, opportunities, and ice time.

Clearly his defensive game and decision making have made major strides.

      • CaptainLander

Nurse has likely been giving up power play time to Anthony DeAngelo the top scoring Defenseman in the OHL last year. The Greyhounds have loaded up this year’s roster with trades to take a run at the Memorial Cup.

Hey Lowetide I love your articles, but sometimes I don’t have time to read the whole thing. Would love if you made a “top prospects” section that highlighted how our main men like drai, nurse, chase… are doing and maybe a “hot” section which shows which guys lit it up the last week.
      Keep it up! thanks!

Somethin that I’ve often thought about..
All AHL players that have a 2-way contract get AHL money while playing in the A and only get NHL money (which is usually at least 5 times their AHL salary) during the time theyre called up..right?
If so, does this mean that a guy like Miller would be gettin roughly 20 thousand per game if he was called up? Even if he just sat in the pressbox?
I mean..its a great way to reward the guys in the A working their tale off all season if they can get NHL money for a game or two (which would probably total half a years worth of AHL salary)..
Even if its just sittin in the pressbox oe getting 4th line icetime. Could be a great motivator for them as well..and give them a taste of the NHL.
That..and it improves the Oilers odds of getting one of McDavid or Eichel.

I suggest between now and the end of the season the Oilers give about 10 of their top AHL prospects a little taste of the NHL. Ship out veterans that wont be here in a year or two anyways, get a better look at some of our prospects..

      Awkward post I know..late night..long weekend.

    • Jordan88

Everyone was all worried about Dr.Drai last week.

      2-7-9 in 4 games.

Can we get more guys down the middle like him?

      *Looks at Yakimov*

This season needs to end the Oilersnation faithful need an emotional oilchange, too many Debbie downers.

    • james_dean

I hope we see Slepyshev next year rocking Bakersfield with Yakimov. Need to find another rouskie to flank the other side. Maybe the return of Vladdy Hockey.

Lowetide: Is he getting more time then his usual 4th line shaft job, or just on fire? Wonder if he has a good end of the year if he could sneak his way onto the World Championship Mens Roster? Would that be a story.

    • james_dean

Why do you insist on putting Luke Gadzic down as a memeber of the OKC Barons and “NHL this week” beside his name. He plays for the Oilers EVERY week!
