Great!! You can feed off the hate to keep you happy until the oilers ACTUALLY improve.

Or maybe all your lust for hate will turn to embarrassment again like a kid who sh’t his pants during a fight.

Until then, we are just as horrible as ever. Quit acting like the oilers accomplished anything, you are embarrassing the rational fans.

This is getting crazy old barely 24 hours later listening to my fellow fans talk like we are some how awesome now. It’s turning pathetic.

The worst part is I am so far in the minority that thinks it’s embarrassing, that it is actually driving me further away from the team.

It’s freakin embarrassing listening to all of you thinking this is finally the year, after the last 9 everyone thought it was the year.

Get some pride. Your acting like non rational crazy people.

NEWS FLASH!! The team is the worst in the league pro rated, and is actually getting worse by the year!!

You should all be happy if we reach playoff status in 3 years, let alone being in a spot to gloat to any other team in the league.

I feel like I am surrounded by dorks this last day and a half.

      Maybe I am?

          • hagar

You are one angry oilers fan. I don’t blame you and no, we haven’t proven anything yet, but you can still be excited. McDavid opens to door to so many opportunities. I guess we’ve just been used to disappointment.

          • hagar

I felt bad the second I hit the submit button on that.

I honestly don’t want to alienate anyone who loves the oilers. I am pushing that line not because of my fellow fans, but because I don’t want us to lose our focus of why this team sucks now, and why it has for like 15 years.

I am honestly sorry for pushing this to a personal attack, and I regret it.

        • hagar

I also enjoy the luck, but I am sure as hell not laughing at other teams about it like they are the suckers, and we are awesome.

How about some self satisfaction without rubbing it other people’s faces like an accomplishment?
And I apologize to you for my first comment because I don’t know if you are gloating to people. If you aren’t, then I don’t mean to call you simpled minded. If you are, then I think you are.

      • someguy

So you do realize that it is your choice to come to Oilersnation. Also it is your choice to read the comments section of the site. Maybe people are happy because by all indications we have now the best prospect to come out of the draft since Crosby. Now I don’t think McDavid makes them an unbeatable force now but they have the second line center they desperately need so that’s something. Besides can’t you just be happy for one day or atleast keep your negative opinions to yourself while the rest of us enjoy the view from our rose-colored glasses atleast till the season begins.

      • Doctor Smashy

Ahhh….”Or maybe all your lust for hate will turn to embarrassment again like a kid who sh’t his pants during a fight.”

You sound like a gross person to get into a fight with…

  • db7db7db7

Actually, in hindsight, Drai may have been the perfect pick. McDavid and Nuge are the legit 1-2 now and since the Oilers supposedly want three scoring lines, there’s nothing wrong with Drai on the third scoring line with a Gordon/Lander/Yakimov on the fourth. Drai at least would have the size to be the bigger center of the three scoring lines and all three centers would have the skill to move up and down the line up as necessary. Not to mention some ridiculously scary PP potential.

Giving LD time to work on his skating explosiveness and defensive game in the AHL without the pressure to produce up here will produce nothing but a scary player to play against in time. He already has the size, smarts, and skill… the rest is just hard work and experience.

Oh and he can do a pullup.

  • Spoils

Now that the Oilers know where they are picking they can give some consideration to a trade.

#1D is desperately needed. Not to mention transformative. Remember what Pronger brought to the Oilers.

    Hall brings injury risk
LD + our first pick in 2016 + our Penguins pick??? is that enough?

people say #1D can’t be acquired through trade, while it is rare, I will point out the following list:

Someone under 25 to grow with the youth.

Are we really planning to go to battle with just Nurse and Klefbom and Schultz?

    • Craig1981

Draisaitl had 2 goals in 37 games and 9 points. Bennett has 1 goal and 3 points in 4 games.

Bennett averaged more goals and points in the CHL too.

You would be lucky to convince people they are equal. What makes you think Draisaitl is better?

      • hagar

        Just random oilers talk.

It’s all good.. we got this covered.

Us oilers fans don’t need a reason to prove anything, we just say what we feel and hope. All good.

      • ChevygoFast

ive seen both Bennett and draisaitl dozens oftimes in junior the last few years and I still believe Drai is the better playerfor this team if only by a slim margin. He still needs a couple years of growth to play the same dominant game at the nhl level but this guy is truly an excellent player reminds me a lot of joe thorton he plays such a smart relaxed game. Edm future looks so bright with a guy like this pencilled in as a #3 center reminds me of the jets in the eary 90s with sakic forsburg and sundin

        • Craig1981

I want to be clear I’m not saying Bennett is better, just not the other way.

I do think Oil fans with be on the Bennett bandwagon if he keeps playing this well……I do love his heart

      • SSB1963

Actually they are pretty similar in stats. The reason the Oil took Drai instead of Bennett was purely based on size. The Oilers need to get bigger and Heavier in the forward ranks.

    • Craig1981

Draisaitl had 2 goals in 37 games and 9 points. Bennett has 1 goal and 3 points in 4 games.

Bennett averaged more goals and points in the CHL too.

You would be lucky to convince people they are equal. What makes you think Draisaitl is better?

  • hagar

IMO, the Oilers got very much better…but it was by super incredible luck that the 13 other teams just didn’t have. No fault or blame for this has be screamed out… It does not hurt the Oilers or us fans.

What makes the situation so more incredible and awesome is that virtually next to no one ever thought…with certainty.. that the Oil would win this Lottery….certainly I didn’t.

The whiners and losers (including all those unprofessional asinine biased media persons from the East mainly) can bitch and hate all they want but no one ordered or told the Leafs, Sabres or Coyotes to very publicly tank and act like idjiots like that.

Now seriously… there’s hard work for the Oilers to get going with…McD may be that excellent but he still needs a whole very good playing team with him and not just a small core either…

I’m very, very happy as an Oiler fan…no wait…I’m ecstatic…but I do agree with many that first…either the Oilers confirm to have Nelson go with one chance to coach or the Oilers go and get a “PROVEN top notch, experienced and Playoff successful” coach.

No matter what, either way…the coach has to be successful and the team has to at least get to the playoffs for one round to experience next year.

While Nelson did excellent with what he had, the Oilers still need someone to take them to the first round next year.

The Oilers must now absolutely then get a top 1 or 2 type defenceman, a top 4 defenceman, to go with Klefbom, Fayne, Marancin.

Three new high end players need to come in.

Let Davidson come up to be the seventh while then Nurse, Laleggia, Simpson, and also, Musil work on the farm team with lots of playing minutes next season.

Schultz, while having decent offensive talent is not a real keeper here. He is good trade bait. Aulie should be also gone because he is actually not that good at the NHL level enough. I would have Nurse put in his place as a rookie than have Aulie full time here.

IMO, Nikitin deserves only a buyout (out of shape/injuries too much), Ference has become too slow and more of a non-factor in games as well and should be bought out or traded to where his contract would allow for it.

To get two new excellent defencemen (top 2/top 4)and a top goalie….without Free Agency even involved – that leaves excellent option type trades with packages of say Purcell, or Gordon (Lander/Yakimov can take his 4th line place), some prospect players and even…. the Oilers held Pittsburgh first round pick, their next two year first rounders (2016/17), and/or some prospects, etc.

BTW, if even Yakimov turns out very good as now expected, the Oilers centres of RNH, McD, Draisaitl, and him would be outstanding… and this could be the start of the future best 4 man centre unit in the league.

Whatta difference now…wow. MacT I seriously hope you and the Oilers Management/scouts finally get this right so this team can do what should have been started at least 4 years ago.

  • hagar

I just can’t stand to see everything forgiven, and we spend another 9 years watching everything go down the drain.

We shouldn’t be happy letting things continue just because we got connor.. we should if anything yell louder to not let this chance go down the hole like our last 4 entry level picks have.

Again, sorry about that. It’s just the frustration of seeing people happy again.

    • srelio

Well im sorry we’re happy we literally won the lottery and got a player who has a realistic chance at surpassing crosby. I swear ill do better next time, when we finally get a legitimate starting goalie ill go run a cold shower, curl up in a ball and cry while thinking about everything thats still wrong with the world.

Also absolutely no one is giving MacT or Klowe any credit for this, if anything its drawing even more attention to their ineptitude.

So just enjoy it, theres nothing wrong with getting excited especially when you look at the immediate impact that generational players can have on a franchise. I know we have done this before but mcdavid isnt just another 18 year old kid in over his head. So lighten up, the worst has passed.

    • db7db7db7

Come on hagar oil fans don’t have a say in the inept people that run the team.but people have a say in which inept political leader runs the country. and they keep voting for them.so ya try and sort that out.point is how can people call down the oil when they make the same foolish mistake at election time.just shows Kats is human like every one else.

    • db7db7db7

You are such a troll and you are fooling nobody. Pretending to be an Oiler fan do you really have that much hatred? your comments make you look like a fool.

    • Hemmercules

I’m somewhat on your side. I have been getting flack from fellow Oilers fans for not being happier about McJesus but I just can’t shake the fact that Mact and Lowe are still running the team and this likely bought them years more. Not to mention the defence and goaltending are in shambles and they probably still also need a couple forwards.

I guess I have seen this re-run before and it doesn’t end that well. Happy to land McDavid for sure but I can’t shake the feeling that the season is still a “development” season as Mact says and probably lands the Oil another top 5 pick in 2016.

I think I might be incapable of getting excited about the Oilers until I wake up one year on new years day and the Oilers are playing a game with playoff implications.

  • hagar

All I’ve heard for two years was how this year’s draft would be the deepest in years, with some Mcsomething as probable first overall.

But goaltending is a long-time weakness of this team; is this a strong draft for goalie prospects also? Are there a few elite goalies pushed down into the second and third round because the draft is so top-heavy?

  • Hemmercules

Say what you will about Bennett and Drai, facts are at this point Leon is a ridiculous prospect and current top Whl pp/60 player. Bennett was 9th on that list if I remember correctly. The flames are welcome to continue signing Gaudreau and Bennett sized players. In 5 years Leon will be destroying them on the boards and breaking up the cycle nonstop. The sample size for Bennett is so small and they are both very new prospects, so to say Bennett is gonna be a point per game player based on this sample size is as bad as saying Taylor Fedun was gonna score 41 goals based on the 2 goals he scores over 4 NHL games with the oil.

Aldo, who cares about Bennett. This is not Tyler vs Taylor. If Bennett is better than Drai, then the flames made the right choice. And if Leon is better they didn’t. Doesn’t seem to be a negative for the oilers at any point.

  • Am I the only one who now thinks it makes sense to offer sheet Doug Hamilton?

He is the right age and will be a hulking top pairing Dman for years to come. Him and Nurse will scare the hell out of the top players in the league and it would speed up the turn around without touching current players.

Plus I am confident if this summer is handled well our 1st round picks will not be nearly as valuable as in past years.

  • Hemmercules

Does landing McDavid make one of the other kids expendable?? Or is it stay the course and keep drafting to the playoffs??

Had a Shames fan tell me yesterday the Oilers would be stupid not to trade McDavid for a package of defensemen and goalies. I laughed and laughed.

    • HardBoiledOil 1.0

To me, that’s the real question.

We all saw the comments about how next year was a development year, and that the core would not be traded. in that situation, keeping all the picks and drafting makes the most sense to build the team for the long-term.

But they are unlikely to get any better prospects than they will drafting McDavid. Add him to the core, and now you could move one of the kids, but the deal would need to make sense.

  • Oilfaninvan

Why all the talk of wanting to trade LD? We had zero centre depth, haven’t we learned our lesson? It’s the Western conference people! Big centres are necessary! Play one on the wing. To get some of the items on the shopping list, one of the wingers will have to go, along with the second first rounder. I wouldn’t be so quick to trade away all of the picks in such a deep draft year either. Cap space will have to be made with some clever moves (uh, oh management) as well.

  • Hemmercules

Still away but overjoyed with the news . Only thing is we won’t get all you want. McDavid will get all bonuses but playoffs and I’d Leon and Nurse get 40-60 games there is a cost . Even with no Roy we have $42 mill tied up plus say $7 mill for goalies and $ 20 for defence . Not enough money . Only way is Shultz and Pitts pick for a $ 6-6.5 mill D . Start looking M.Stall , Seabrook or Phaneuf.

  • wiseguy

Figure $18 mill plus Lander Pouliot Purcell @ 9.5 McDavid Yak and Leon @8 plus Gordon Hendricks Klinkhammer Gaz Pitlick another $7.5 then new goalie say Niemi iScrivens $7 mill . nikitin, Schultz Ference Marincin Fayne Klefbom Davidson or Aulie $ 19-20 mill. Most McT can do is a goalie then a 3-4$ mill guy + has to go to get a top D. only good thing is in a year we loose Nikitin , Purcell , Gordon , Scrivens that’s $ 15 mill . One more year probably 85 points

  • hagar

Do the oilers even consider trading their 2016 1st round pick for help now the way they throw hot dice at the draft lotto table? Next year’s draft is changing again with the top 4 slots up for grabs for everyone who misses the playoffs so….

  • HardBoiledOil 1.0

^no!! and it’s nice to see Kyle Platzer get 2 goals and 3 points in 4 games during the regular season in OKC. i know it’s not a full season, but that should dispel and talk about his productive last season in junior being a fluke!

  • Ar_C

It’s time for Mact to build a playoff type team, get rid of powderpuffs like Purcell and Nikitin who will just disappear and wilt when the going gets tough.Same with Ference, his lack of footspeed and size will be exposed in the playoffs

    • Craig1981

Ference is a fine 6 or 7. He competes. He goes hard every shift, he has playoff and leadership experience, something the oilers sadly lack. Building the ultimate playoff team is more than just size and foot speed. Facts are LA is not a playoff team this year. I think before we are a playoff team, this team needs half the roster to turn over. Yes. Half. Not enough passion. Losing has been acceptable for far too long. Yak plays with passion. Hall drives play and I see RNH being a defensive specialist ala Datsyuk Jr. So with McDavid that’s 4 of the top 9. I think they could move anyone else, Eberle, Lander, Purcell, Pouliot, all of them to start bringing in the right people with the right mentality because right now, their mentality sucks balls.

  • SSB1963

I can’t get on lowetide from Britain but I must add all the negative bs is beyond me . Fire Lowe , fire McT hire Babcock . I have one thought on Nicholson , didn’t he stick with Lowe on his GM grouping and if he fires McT after 2 full years his as big an idiot as I can see . Calm down. As much as I want playoffs I want an actuall team when we move into the new building and if it takes another year so be it . Get the goalie and 1 D now, next year we have over 15 mill , add Nurse , Brisbois as back up , Leon as 3 Rd line C and add 2 more top D and a top winger . If more make it from AHL great but right now Purcell, Nikitin , Gordon , Scrivens , Gazdic will go with potential trades . I see a fine future if handled correctly .

  • oobespoons

Before you Flame fans get to gungho about Bennett try and remember your last “hot” prospect Sven Bartschi who had 2 goals in his first 3 games. Last seen playing for the canucks farmteam.

Facts are you need a much larged sample size before judging a player. Now Bennett has huge potential but it concerns me when a player misses a full developmental year because of injury. Bennetts size will always be a issue for him and I hope for him that this shoulder injury isnt a sign of things to come!
