Tuesday was the last day to place players on unconditional waivers prior to a buyout, and the Oilers passed on the opportunity, meaning that the obvious candidates for severance will either have to be moved in some other manner or will be around next season. And that’s just fine.
This year’s crop of free agents isn’t great, but there a few players that would help the Oilers.
On the weekend I had a chance (along with Paul Almeida) to talk with Paul and Griffin Reinhart. It was mere hours after the trade that brought Griffin to the Oilers and both men were pleased with the opportunity.
The Edmonton Oilers announced on Monday that they had issues qualifying offers to three of their restricted free agents. Receiving offers were defencemen Justin Schultz and Brandon Davidson, along with right wing Tyler Pitlick. Not receiving offers: Apparently, everyone else.
After months of anticipation and waiting patiently by the calendar the Oilers finally drafted Connor McDavid first overall on Friday, June 26th. To celebrate, we packed the Pint Downtown with as many Nation citizens as we could possibly fit before the fire marshall would shut us down. The result? A hell of a night.

The summer has quietly arrived. The weather is nice, people are looking for things to do, and unfortunately, watching hockey isn’t one of their options. The Washington Capitals blue liner has majestic career stats that tower over most of the free agents available and he is one of the 10 best offensive producers from the…
The Edmonton Oilers brought home some NHL players and prospects who may be NHL-ready from the 2015 draft. As we head toward free agency—RFA and UFA—it’s important to know who is on the 50-man list and how much room remains. Things get tight in a hurry!
The Oilers made the correct pick at #1. They happily selected Connor McDavid, and then presented him with the new orange jersey. The Jersey looked great, and the Oilers even put McDavid’s number on the back, a sign they’ve known for months they were taking the Erie Otter star. Peter Chiarelli informed us he told…
The Edmonton Oilers have been selling hope for so long without coming remotely close to delivering results to fans, it’s completely understandable a sizeable segment of their long-suffering faithful is taking a show-me-don’t-tell-me stance. I’ve resided in that camp awhile.
