Oilers trade Boyd Gordon

The Oilers traded centre Boyd Gordon to Arizona for winger Lauri Korpikoski.

Gordon has one year left with a $3 millon cap hit, while Korpikoski has two years remaining at $2.5 million AAV.

This gives the Oilers some speed in their bottom six, but creates a void down the middle. I don’t see any way the Oilers begin the season with McDavid, RNH, Draisaitl and Lander as their four centres.

A source told me the Oilers are looking at some veterans UFA centres and exploring trade possibilities, but right now the UFA route seems more likely. One name to consider is Gregory Campbell.

This seems like step one of a few deals, other wise it is a bit of a head scratcher considering Gordon’s contract comes off the books next year.

Your thoughts on the deal?

Yakimov is still a year away and Hendricks is really a winger who can play center in a pinch. What about Stoll as a UFA?
More info on Korpokoski would be nice. I’ve seen the stats. Good speed, but what about physicality and competitiveness? Low PMs.

Man you would think MacT is running the team.

Trading Gordo for Korpi creates a hole. So hopefully something is brewing. Sideways move. Hopefully Chia is not expecting our toddlers to do all the heavy lifting. Korpi can fly and has alot of success against the Oilers, but who is going to do the dirty work. Gordon sends the puck in the right direction. He was a right fit.

Our defence is no better. Thet slighty overpay for a player from the Oil Kings, Marincin for nothing, Completely ignoring the analytics that suggest Marincin is an actual NHL defenceman. Signing Gryba to replace Allie. And Nikitin is still around. Was he sent to a Russian work camp this summer? All you can hope for is that after they qualified Schultz is they can find a suitor and can sign a top pairing defender. Oh ya, Ference is still here. The defence is terrible.

The one good move so far is Talbot.

They need pro scouts to scout their own team. Chia won a cup, full marks, but Boston’s GM since then he has been flat out brutal. The two firings that should of happened were MacT and Howsen, and I can’t help but feel that their fingers are on all these moves. He has hit one homerun so far, the rest have been sideways moves.

I don’t know what they see in Korpikoski. He is a diminishing asset with 2.75 mil 15/16 and 3 mil 16/17. That’s something MacT would do. WTF is going on! Another Nikitin for ya WTF

Thanks Boyd you were a good pro for this young team and never had a bad word for anyone. Welcome Lauri you are a perfect fit on the the third line an abrasive but good defensive player just what we were looking for. This is fun who is going to be the cagey veteran PC will bring in to fill the void at centre? Horc is not an awful thought, a 4th line centre on the cheap.

Loved Boyd Gordon! Who’d gonna play those tough minutes and win all those D-Zone face-offs? Hopefully somethings a brewing…

Also, can they even be Oilers without a Pouliot & Brodziak? Throw in Reasoner and we can pretend its 2007 again… lol

Heres the THN bio on Korpikoski.

Speed is his best attribute, which he uses with aplomb in defensive situations. Plays with lots of energy and spunk. Versatile, he can play all three forward positions and kill penalties. Is also adept in the face-off dot.

    sounds good to me.

There were only two teams worse than the Oilers last year, so trading Gordon to one of them wasn’t what I had in mind when I wrote #freegordon. I was hoping he’d get an opportunity at the playoffs where his skill set would be even more valuable. He was a solid player in a thankless role, and he did it without complaint.

On the bright side, Korpikoski has a chance to be the best Lauri in Oilers history. That has to count for something.

Obviously Chia is looking for another center. We know he was previously sniffing around Richards in LA. And, of course we need those top defensemen… tomorrow should be a big day!

Well, we’ve changed the coach, the GMs and still lunacy persists!

This time I’m pointing to the Oilers’ office building. Knock that thing to the ground, because there is some toxic, brain-poisoning something in that building that trades away Gordon, Marincin, a 16th and a 33rd for the return the Oilers got.

Something wicked good this way comes.

Perimeter deals to make room before a bigger deal. Hope the Oil don’t get left standing at the alter like the Bruins last Friday.

Wonder what the price of Boedker would have been.

I don’t get some of you people! Horcoff! Really! Horcoff is not coming back! Give it up already! If PC did that I would lose all respect for that guy! But I won’t! cuz he won’t!
