McDavid Signs ELC

In a move that surprises no one the Edmonton Oilers have signed Connor McDavid to his entry level contract. There is nothing else to say except to point and laugh at everyone who said he would “Lindros” the team. It goes without saying that I am beyond excited.

More to come…

  • I just wanted to say ive been reading this blog for more than 5 years now. And throughout the years there have been people with negative comments and others who followed like sheep. These people that commented negatively whether DSF or quicsilver ballet, Were in fact right from the beginning they were right about management, And they were right about the players. I remember i was reading the comment thread and saw quick silver comment at this rate they will probably be picking first for the mcdavid draft. I guess all im trying tk say is that these guys were right from the begining and im sure they are oilers fans. The thing is that they were jus done with the management and all the players they brought in and did absolutely nothing on the ice. Anyways im just happy that finally things are bright and looking up. And now i can see the difference between good management and inept management. Im extremely happy for the Mcdavid signing. Coming from a fan in calgary that hates the flames.

  • 1983 and This Year

With his proclamation of wanting to play in Oilers colours for the rest of his life, I expected Chia to come to the table with a 20 year, $10M AAV contract, paid up front. Katz ponies up $200M this year and by year 6 it’s a value contract.

Of course, not sure about McD’s level of motivation at that point…

  • 1983 and This Year

Cheering for losses and high draft picks all these years = Creating a losing culture that is unbelievably difficult to overcome.

Careful what you wish for Oiler fans, I see this losing continue…its called karma

    • 1983 and This Year

You know this is team is heading in the right direction when Trolls take the time OUT OF THEIR DAY to come on a hockey blog and pathetically try to trash a team. Do you have nothing else to do?

I say, the more trolls, the better. Means somethings brewing in oil country. Keep it up. You sir, are a pathetic and jealous. It scream volumes when you come on here and say things like that.

      • BigMcD

You’re right there must be something good happening!
Go to flames nation and look at the comments. It is deader than a doornail in there.
Don’t take my word for it look for yourself!

    • Naterator

Umm no, the losing culture was created by inept management and having no accountability for the players.

No Oiler fan is actually cheering for high picks, any one of us would have much rather seen us succeed. What are we going to do, say no thanks Mcdavid, we are going to reach for Debrusk.

This has all changed now with the new management put in place. Competition for spots, proper development of players, three stooges gone (kinda). This alone will breed a new culture

  • Jordan McNugent-Hallkins

Also, please don’t ban the trolls, baggie. Their envy and hatred fuels me, my love for the Oilers is growing with every passing day. I love the guy on the first page that said he feels bad for us. I legitimately laughed out loud at that.

  • McLando

Is Connor going to put up more points than Gaudreau did in his rookie season? Man I hope so or we’ll will have to hear Flames fans call him a bust till the end of time… I’m going big and saying he leads the team next year. 73pts. Book it!

  • Ever the Optimist

I look forward to my top 2 lines I feel we’ll be using to start season .

Hall, Hopkins, Eberle – an easy continuation .

Pouliot , McDavid , Draisaitl – strong possession in offensive zone . McDavid did well with a similar player in Strome , and Draisaitl fits that bill as well . Pouliot adds the speed , defensive awareness and veteran leadership to the line .

Bottom six could be tougher to assemble but here is my take .

Hendriks , Letestu/Lander , Yakupov . Yak has to improve defensive awareness before he can get trusted up to top 2 lines .

    Korpikoski , Lander/Letestu , Klinkhammer .

Do not see Purcell except as extra forward .

  • Jordan McNugent-Hallkins

Honestly, Nuge was mid-60s his rookie year after missing 20 games or so, on a worse team. I’m trying to lower my expectations and say the Magic Man will pot about the same, but I’m having a hard time.

    • Joy S. Lee

Nuge was mid 60’s ??? No wonder people laugh at us. You do realize that this info is available online don’t you? Take two minutes and look up his stats. You are over by 20%. Must be the kool aid.

      • Joy S. Lee

Hey oldtimer with the sky is falling attitude… chew on this: I don’t care about Nuge’s rookie #’s. McDavid is going to hit a century. Book it! (And, even if I’m wrong… he’s still going to be impressive at whatever numbers he posts. Book that, too!! And that’s the REAL Kool-Aid!

      • Jordan McNugent-Hallkins

Lol, must be. I can’t think straight with all these McDavids getting in the way.

EDIT: And you might wanna drop “Oil Fan” from your name. You’re surrounded by Oil fans here, and you’re clearly not one.

        • Jordan McNugent-Hallkins

I used to be (in the old days) a complete fan of all things Oil. It’s the recent management and the attitudes in the front office (excluding Chia and McClellan) that I grew to hate. I used to attend 5 or 6 games a year – so 4 tickets a pop and food, drink and jerseys here and there would run me around $3 or $4 G a year. After being insulted by Kblowe for being a second tier fan I have not purchased a single ticket since (I still catch the odd game with free tix from work). Until Kblowe is removed I will not spend a penny on this team. He taints this organization in a bad way and he effects my ability to enjoy the team. Maybe I’m stubborn but if a few grand a year wasn’t appreciated than F-you Kblowe. When (if) the last of this old boys crew is removed I will find it much easier to appreciatte all things Oil again.

          • Jordan McNugent-Hallkins

Yeah, now you’re just being a stubborn ass. Lowe has nothing to do with hockey decisions. He’s best friends with the owner, and has been for years. He’s not going anywhere. Now please, can you stop bitching and just enjoy the fact that the future greatest player on Earth is an Oiler?

  • Anton CP

To Flamer trolls, seriously that your team’s record wasn’t that great in the past few years. Just so you made to playoffs last year and beat the worst team in playoffs possible doesn’t mean you are actually way better than the Oilers. Let’s see who will win the cup first shall we.

  • Ever the Optimist

We are still the laughing stock that it took us so many years of complete failure before we actually hired a real GM and coach. But yet we don’t fire the tards that caused this??? Talk about a joke. Until the failures (Kblowe, Mc Blabish, Howsen) are removed we still look like fools. Only in Edmonton do complete failures have jobs for life.

    • Joy S. Lee

      Good grief, please stop.

Not just you; everyone who keeps harping on about this. I’ve been hearing it forever, and it was an obviously legitimate concern…in the past.

Tell me, does it look different yet? By my eye, it sure does. Three quarters of the organization seems to be turned over. So why do some of you insist on beating a dead horse over and over and over and over and over again? You honestly think talking about it all of the time is going to ease the pain… or make it go away? Because if you do, that’s a hilariously misguided take on things. Get over it, already. Movin’ on, you’ll notice that Connor McDavid is signing an ELC with the team in the picture and article above.

      Yay, perhaps?

    • paul wodehouse

I’m an ‘old time Oilers’ fan’ too. I am glad to see Lowe transferred to another department away from hockey, but MacT is another story. This guy is like Smytty, bleeds orange and blue and has more reasons to be loyal to the Oil than any other. Chiarelli called him out for all the draft picks that netted us decent players for once. He has put the past behind him, so has the organization, it’s about time we did as well. If Chiarelli is happy to have him around, then I’m all for it.

  • Joy S. Lee

BOOK IT : Draisaitl (converted to RW) and McDavid with Pouliot will have two in top ten scorers till well after Xmas , as other teams focus on our other line of Hall, Hopkins and Eberle .

  • Jordan McNugent-Hallkins

Well people I’ve been an oilers fan for 36 years now and this is definitely the best day I’ve had as a loyal fan since they last won the cup! The transformation has begun and we can all take a great big breath! I’ve been waiting a long time for good news and this last couple months have been full of it. So heres to all the the the people who have stuck with the high times and the”lowes” and never gave up. CHEERS!!!!!

  • Jordan McNugent-Hallkins

McDavid looks happy, by all accounts.

Nothing any butthurt bandwagoners say will ever take that feeling away from him.

If you call yourself a hockey fan, nevermind an Oilers fan, you’re happy for this kid for realizing his lifelong dream.

    • BigMcD

When Oilers won the lottery maybe Connor was a bit choked. Truthfully I would be too!
When he was able to see first hand what this team has done since , I bet has certainly changed his mind .
He probably sees what great passionate fans here we have in Edmonton and what Bob Nicholson and Chiarelli have done in the past 2 months has been nothing short of spectacular.
What is happening here right now before our eyes is a complete transformation of a once proud organization , bringing it back to respectability with some of the best young talent in the league. McDavid will have his chance to do here what Gretzky and the rest were able to do 30 years ago.
      Have a McDavid day.

  • paul wodehouse

…so bitter and there seems to be no end to it
    >how about if the Oilers make the playoffs this year and Kevin’s still in place but MacT is shown the door…Chiarelli won’t share any his successes with another kinda sorta GM y’know…Kevin is there to stay OTOF…get over it…MacT went away once and joined the Canucks organization waiting to get the job in Van City…didn’t happen so that loyalty you think MacT has? …has little depth…MacT is a good guy we both knew him back in the day but he’s not forever…

  • As long as K-Lowe and his “I know about winning” smug, pompous, waste of skin self and buddies from the glory days like Mac T are around its the same old joke in Edmonton. And I’m an Oilers fan!!!

Its embarrassing that these guys still have jobs after taking us from one of the greatest organizations in the 80’s into the laughing stalk of the league the past decade. Lowe and his old boys club single handedly destroyed this organization and set it back decades. We’re on our 3rd bloody rebuild of the last 10 years at the very bottom of the league nowhere near the playoffs, and that’s the cold, hard reality!!!

There are some different faces wearing the ties, but with the same clown shoes and clown noses. Really hoping for the best this year, but I’m not foolish and naïve enough to get excited in the summer, I’ll believe things are different when the results on the ice actually change.

    • No, you are NOT an Oilers’ fan because you can’t see that Lowe is no longer involved in hockey decisions you can’t get your head around that things have really changed, and you cannot accept that the changes made have been for the better of the team. Go support the failing Canucks or Leafs, but butt out of this web site cos you have NO idea what you are talking about, decisions have been made, players have been signed. And MacT, although not a great GM is an Oiler, through and through. Suck it up buttercup.

      • Jordan McNugent-Hallkins

I’ve been a fan of this team since before they hoisted their first ever Stanley Cup so show some damn respect to a long time fan and former season ticket holder that has bled Oilers copper and blue you smug little prick.

At the end of the day the only thing that matter are results and I’ve seen none in a very long time here despite coaching change after coaching change, new #1 draft pick after new # 1 draft pick and new goalie after new goalie.

Nothing matters except the result on the ice, anything more than cautious optimism at this point is unintelligent thinking

  • Someone help out a brother. How Much Can McDavid Make through his E.L.C.?? I know the base is around $950 grand, and he will have endorsement deals but what kind of incentive pay, bonuses will he get? Followed Hockey all these damn years and I still can’t figure out these E.L.C. compared to other rookie contracts in other leagues. Thanks in advance.
