It’s a Meme Contest

When Oilers news is slow the contests are plentiful and the swag shall flow like the North Saskatchewan. I always dig the photoshop contests but we just had one and I’d like to get more of you involved. That’s why it’s time to meme again. What’s a meme? Look up. The fine mademoiselle explains it nicely. Remember that old lady as you turn on the creative juices. I love meme contests because basically anyone can enter them – just find a meme generator and away you go. The possibilities are endless!

After finally coming to terms with the fact that I had to come back to the office after the long weekend, I started digging around Nation HQ for some prizes (actually, I made the intern do it). As always, our sponsors are willing to pay up for me to leave them alone, and they’ve provided me with some pretty slick prizes to make that happen. Once the prizes were settled, it was time to come up with a contest idea (I like putting the cart before the horse).

Since we don’t want you guys running wild out there in the land of the Internets all alone, we’ve come up with some guidelines to help you along. The theme of this meme contest is, “Why this year will be different.” I know we’ve said that the new season would be different almost every year for a decade, but this time we really REALLY mean it. Personally, I expect the Oilers to be competitive in December. That’s right, I said it. This year WILL be different. *brushes shoulders off*

What does a “this year will be different” meme look like? You tell me. This is a wide open space for you to smash your melon against the keyboard and see what comes out. Think this year will be different because other teams will suck? Meme it. If you think that the last year at Rexall Place will be the year the Oilers get back to the promised land, meme it. Want to talk about Connor McDavid putting the Oilers over the top? I’ll take that meme every day.

The sky is the limit in terms of what “this year will be different” can mean, and I’m asking you to tell me what that is. Feel free to submit as many entries as you like to me at until you think you’ve nailed the perfect meme. Remember, there are prizes and Internet glory at stake and you want a part of that. The deadline to enter will be this Thursday at 11:59pm and anything submitted after that will not be counted. I want to thank the fine folks at Print Machine, the Pint, and Oodle Noodle for making this happen.

Since we can’t have a contest without prizes, I’ve put together the following packages for our winners to battle over.  I expect the fights to be bloody, aggressive, and obviously to avoid the face… we’re all gentlemen (and ladies) around these parts.

The prizes are:

  • 1st place: a Nation Hoodie + two Nation Tees + $25 Pint GC + Oodle Noodle GCs + Car Decal
  • 2nd place: a Nation Tee + $25 Pint GC + Oodle Noodle GCs + Car Decal
  • 3rd place: a $20 Pint GC + a Oodle Noodle GCs + Car Decal
  • We’ll pick 5 random entrants to win an Oodle Noodle GC and a sticker package.

Once the finalists are selected, we’ll throw up another article to showcase those mental heroes and commence the voting.  As always, we’ll do the voting through the pollz to make things easier for me to count (I only have so many fingers).  Those, however, are details for another day. Until then, go forth and waste as much company time as you possibly can.
