The Bakersfield Condors officially got the party started this weekend, with a pair of games against substantial AHL competition. The team’s regular season record stands at 1-1 and they’re looking for goals. Sound familiar?

  • Laurent Brossoit pitched a shutout in G1 before playing well (despite the score) in Saturday’s game.
  • Andrew Miller scored the first goal in Condors regular-season history. Remember that for trivia.
  • Iiro Pakarinen leads the team with 9 shots on goal.
  • Mitch Moroz has 10 PIMs already.
  • Leon Draisaitl does a fantastic John Wayne impersonation in the video above. Seriously.

Didn’t Nikitin play?? How much share of the games is Scrivens gonna get?? Hopefully Brossoit gets the lions share

Also, why are you writing a piece instead of watching the jays game?

    • Lowetide

Nikitin hasn’t played yet, no, nor has Scrivens. Wrote it this afternoon, the only two men in action tonight were Caleb Jones and Ethan Bear. Waited until their game was done, published.

As for the Jays, they look good! Nice to see the Oilers taking it in, too.

  • Lowetide

WOW. Oilers and Condors with only one goal each in first two games . 0 for 7 on the power play for Condors last night . Nurse and Draisaitl not getting off to a good start by looks of it . How long is this drought going to last ?

    • bazmagoo

No goals for the Oilers really, Nuge’s goal was an own goal for the Blues. I think the slow start is a management/coaching created leadership test to see who will crack first. Hint : Hall already has.

      • X Man

Oh so it’s not that the oilers suck, it’s that the teams they are playing are too good… So if they can beat the weaker teams then they’re good… Thanks for that brilliant insight!

        • For Pete's Sake!

Hey X Man. Lighten up! We all know the Oilers aren’t a good team yet. We know they’ve got a long way to go.

The question is, “Are they a better team than last year?”

We’re all waiting and hoping the answer to that question is finally, “YES!!!”

  • bazmagoo

Seguin, Landeskog and Murray. You can’t tell me those wouldn’t have been better picks at this stage. The curse of Lowe will take years to get over guys, but we are all in it for the long haul.

Yak is the one who will click with McDavid. One of RNH, Eberle, or Hall will be shipped for help on defence. It’s inevitable, our defence is still the worst in the league. The Nikitin signing is crippling itself, the rest of the blunders are just incredible when you really look at it. Success rate – 0. Hoping Davidson plays next game.

If I was a betting man (which I am) I’d bet Hall goes for 1 legit 2nd pairing d-man and 1 borderline 2nd pairing d-man. The Oilers are screwed if the current trend continues.

Great Jays game, and to use the players words. ” It’s great just to be a fan”, feel the frustration and the joy of WINNING!!!

    Here’s an absolute head scratcher…

    Who’s the Oilers Donaldson?

    who’s the Oilers Tulo?

IMO no one yet, McDavid will be that but not yet. Very curious on the Oilers Nation thoughts?

    • bazmagoo

“Great Jays game” – this is a Canadian website good sir, no Amurican sport talk allowed. Good luck to Toronto and the Jays I guess, but I’d rather watch paint dry than watch a baseball game. Too slow paced, it’s not a sport it’s a hobby.

My favourite Jays memory was watching Joe Carter hit a grand slam home run to win the world series. Want to know what was the “highlight” of the night on ESPN that night? Some college football or basketball play, it wasn’t the grand slam. Toronto wasn’t Amurican enough for ’em. I’d rather watch paint dry.

Coach McLellan has the team playing great defence, but our 6 nightly d-men are still bottom 5 in the league – minimum. If we have Petry, bottom 10 in the league – tops. We are in a big hole on the back end.

  • For Pete's Sake!

I wouldn’t worry too much about the Oiler’s scoring ability. They’ve just finished playing two of the best defensive teams in the NHL.

If they can’t score on Dallas on Tuesday I would start worrying. But I don’t think that will be the case.
