WEEKEND UPDATE

With Darnell Nurse, Leon Draisaitl and Iiro Pakarinen in Edmonton, there’s a chance for others to shine in Bakersfield. It’s been a fascinating week across the prospect field and several names are worth mentioning for impressive spikes in performance. Let’s have a look.

As always, thanks LT. It’s good to see some of the kids make the jump and keep their heads above water. Also good to see some of the ones left behind stepping up and thriving. Doesn’t look promising for Scrivens though. Poor lad. Hope his wife is having success.

      • Hard to believe that Braden Christoffer only has 1 pt after looking so good just about every time he touches the puck.

Also, the ads here just informed me that I am a senior looking to date Russian girls.

The wife should get a good laugh at that one.

I’m willing to work to get over the language barrier but it hasn’t worked with her yet and she speaks english.

        • Hard to believe the Condors are as bad as they seem. One would’ve hoped for more with all their talent but I suppose being bad defensively is a collective thing within the organization sadly.

So, you’re in it for the Russians girls. Me myself got ads for Asian girls. Gotta wonder what algoritm dictates that.

Okay, I just have to ask this, and it doesn’t give me any pleasure to do so… I never want to put any pressure on a prospect, but I just don’t see this kid as a prospect anymore, being completely honest…not the way it’s been going!

I hate to say it, because I want every Oiler prospect – especially junior-aged, to be successful and be given every chance at success. As well I was a HUGE Dan Bouchard fan growing up and maybe this kid is a relative, which is another reason to cheer for him. But what on earth is Kevin Bouchard still doing getting all those opportunities, playing a position so vital to team success? After season upon season of putting up statistics that are not only disappointing, but trending sharply in the wrong direction, to still have opportunities over other kids who could be successful blows my mind! I hate to say this, but it’s gotten to the point where Tyler Bunz would have been Hasek-like as a prospect, comparatively.

Can you tell me what I’m missing, please? There has to be something I’m not seeing…admittedly I’m not watching those games. It’s just that the statistics look so telling that there must be some explanation, or something in his game that I’m missing from way over here! I hope there is, and I hope the kid is successful and proves his doubters wrong, myself included, at this point.

        • Semi

He’s only 19, still in junior, and as an unsigned drafted prospect, is only taking up a spot on the extended 90 man roster, not the 50.

So unless you’re concerned for the other goalie on his junior team who isn’t an Oiler prospect, don’t worry about him getting opportunities or minutes. He’s not getting them over other Oilers.

He was also drafted in 2014, so this is only his 2nd season as a prospect. His stats aren’t great, but remember, junior goalies get lit up often. There’s a reason goalies usually don’t enter the NHL until their mid 20’s.

Oilers still have this year and next before having to sign or release him back to the draft / FA, so I wouldn’t be too concerned yet.

looks like the picks we made in the later rounds of this year’s draft….Bear, Jones, Marino and Paigin may pay a few dividends in the future. i thought it was meh, but it could turn out to be a very good piece of drafting here.

      • HardBoiledOil 1.0

i have a feeling Kevin Bouchard will not be signed. i wasn’t a fan of this pick, but hey, he’s only a 7th rounder and how many of those ever turn out?
